Hey everyone,

Over spring break we went out to Sun Peaks in BC, and on one of the days, a friend brought out his camera and took some pictures. I REALLY like one of them in particular, and would like to put it on a wall in my room.

The issue is that I have NO idea how to get this done. I have been searching quite a bit, and I see that I can get a 24 x 36" photo print for a reasonable amount of money, but I would like something a little more professional that I can put on a wall.

I have seen some sites offering to mount the photo on "gatorboard", but I have no idea what the final product would be like.

The photo was shot on a Digita Rebel XT, so im not too worried about resolution.

If you're looking to keep it cheap but also have a nice look then you might want to consider doing this ---

http//homokaasu.org/rasterbator/

They actually look really nice.

(hawt!)

Anyway, I've been thinking about getting a bunch of picture frames and making a really nice looking one... sort of along the lines of this one --

[img="e91c059087]http//homokaasu.org/rasterbator/gallery/i/3361.jpg[" alt=""/imge91c059087]

Only black picture frames and a different size and etc.

Sounds like i'm interested in doing what you did. What kinda camera do we need for it to look decent larger? I'm using a little 8 meg pixel camera but takes really nice shots. Is it possible to enlarge bigger and look decent?

Damn, the Rebel XT takes some fiiiine pictures. I have one myself wink I was gonna suggest the rasterbator too. You might wanna try UPS stores, Kinkos, etc. that have those gynormous printers and get a custom frame at Hobby Lobby. You might also want to crop out that water droplet on the lens )

Yeah I didn't like 10,000 BC too much either. Her eyes were so amazing in that movie though. Too bad it was just digitally enhanced. |

She's still really hot and kind of cute at the same time though. I like girls like that.

I'm not too much of a fan of the Einstein one. It could have been done better. But yeah, that picture of the girl is really good. Who wants to find the original image? P

wow guys, thanks for all the responses!

I think i'm going to try the rasterbator for now, and maybe take a trip over the the UPS store and see what they can do.

And someone mentioned a water droplet, I'm not sure where he is talking about. The only thing that may be confusing is the end of my pole at the very right of the picture.

JKirk

For the rasterbator, Mike, I would make the white lines between them like the girl picture. It just looks more artsy.

Do you have the original image - what's the resolution? As for the white lines, I think those are just printed pages pasted to the wall in a grid.

Oh, haha. Really looked like a water droplet. I assumed since he was shooting in the snow...

zdub08

12-03-2008 23:00:38

damn, think of how much ink that plain black background (girl pic) wasted. All that snow is probably saving you a couple ink cartridges.

I always wanted to rasterbate this

http//sleevage.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/09/hailtothe_theif.jpg[" alt=""/imgbedfd79406]

I wonder how big I would have to make it, or if it would even look cool.

mikedb

13-03-2008 08:24:35

well, while i wait for the money to make a proper photo enlargement of this, I decided to rasterbate.

The process was REALLY tough on my computer, to get the output at the resolution I wanted. MAking the file took about 10 mins, and I had to download adobe from mac- the built in PDF reader would crash and use more than 5 GB of virtual memory.

After I got Adobe, it too about 10 mins to load the file, and about 2 minutes per page (18 pages) of 100% processing to send to the printer. Keep in mind that this is on a C2D 2 GHz Macbook Pro.

The original image was 3MB, and 3456 x 2304

Im REALLY happy with the final product

Did you print this at your house? It seems like it would take so much ink that it would be such as pain. I was thinking about taking one to Staples and having them print the PDF.

ajasax

15-03-2008 22:17:06

Yeah I was thinking the same. It would be much cheaper than buying a $30 ink cartridge ?

mikedb

16-03-2008 08:26:06

just printed it with an inkjet i had sitting around that I got fro free with my macbook... since I have a laser printer and have no use for my color ink, i wasn't overly worried with the amount of ink that was used. Its also important to note that the started cartridge that came with the printer lasted through the whole job.

This question relates to this topic instead of making a new one, I was at the Canes 2nd to Last game At the O.B (R.I.P) and took some nice shots of the stadium, want to get it blown up and framed as well as my ticket stub (3rd row 50 yard line) my local frame guy, to be honest isnt very talented, I don't really know if there is any option's for me to go online, send them my pic and mail them in my ticket? thanks for any advice.
