I have some questions about the Unlimited Data Service. Is it really unlimited, or do they limit it with a certain amount of mb? If they do, about how much would that amount last? (i.e. how many kb does it take to load an average web page)

Also, does this service allow you to browse the internet anywhere you have cell phone reception?

Thanks

Yes, the data is Unlimited. I have an unlimited data package (ANR plan) and I use around 200 MB's a month. I've also tethered it to my laptop while on the road a few times. It works best in a 3G area. That's where you'll experience the best speeds. 2.5 G isn't too impressive. I'd say 3G is like DSL speeds where as 2.5G is like maybe 5x faster than dialup.
If you can find out if you're area is a 3G area, that's your best bet.

And yes, you're able to browse wherever you have internet. There's actually a lot more things that use data too.
I downloaded Aim, MSN, I get emails downloaded via Push (instant) to Pocket Outlook, and Microsoft Live ( A google maps type service but better [according to engaget]).
Most of my data is used via the emails and browsing though.

Not that I have the answer to this question, but a sort of sidenote . . . If I were you, I would avoid AT&T at least until they come to a final decision about their internet[=http//www.techcrunch.com/2008/01/09/att-may-censor-copyrighted-materials-at-the-isp-level/]internet censoring plan.

cool. thanks guys. so specifically for the iphone, which obviously doesn't have 3g yet would I be able to use literally unlimited data? also, could i hook that up to my laptop anywhere and get internet on my laptop?

I'm not too sure about tethering an iPhone to your laptop, I haven't experienced that. I have an 8525 (looking to upgrade to the Tilt in the next few days).
Also, EatChex, from what I can see that link pertains to AT&T computer internet, the OP is looking for the data plan on their wireless service.

But how would that even matter if I would only be using their service on my phone?

Nevermind, I thought you were persuing an internet plan instead of phone. Disregard! oops

Thanks a lot guys for the advice. I'm currently with Verizon, but I'm getting more tempted every day to switch over to AT&T (Because I know that the iPhone won't be going to any other provider for quite a while)

Personally, Dmorris and I can both vouch for a data device such as the 8925 (Tilt) over the iPhone. But this is only if you're willing to pay for the data. It's not as cheap as the iPhone data plan however the phone has many features that are great to have.
If you're a casual user, then you might still want to stick with the iPhone.

Yeah, i have considered other phones. But I guess I'm just a sucker for Apple products. I initially told myself I'd never leave Verizon for the iPhone, but the closer it gets to 32GB, the more i'm inclined to change my mind.

I have an iPhone and yes, it is unlimited data. AT&T coverage in my area is very good and EDGE is fast enough when I need it.
