Is it possible to return an opened game, Guitar Hero III for the Wii, and return the entire package, guitar and all, with the receipt, and replace it for the one for XBOX 360? If I could that would be amazing.

I do not think opened games can be returned. It would have to be in original packaging still. Sorry, I tried this before.

It depends on which store you bought it from...

I know on BestBuy there is a % for opened packages which is 10% of the original price

games are usually excluded from this though

You can try at Walmart. Usually they'll just take your opened CD back and give you a brand new unopened one. Then with your unopened one you can take it to another Walmart for an exchange.

Really? But it's Guitar Hero III. That big gigantic box. Thing.

And what reason would I give them to return it for a new one? I wanna return the one for the Wii, and they're like impossible to get nowadays.

Be creative. I took back a 360 game once by simply looking in this elderly woman's eyes and saying, "it has problems running on my 360. There is something wrong with this disc."

But I wanted to turn it into a huge scene with like music and rapping...and...cricket games.

No but seriously, they'll take back the game and the guitar?

If it was a gaming package then that is why they accepted it. The general rule is it depends on the management of the store. Most cases I find that it does not work. I did what J4 said in Walmart, and it did not work for me.

try to look as innocent as possible.... trust me I've returned 3 sweater at Macy's, you need an original receipt to get CASH refund... or else you would get the stupid giftcard... anyway it was 2 days before Christmas and I did not like the 3 sweater I bought because I found cheaper.. stupid me, I always throw the receipts right away, I came back and ask this really old lady, and looked innocent as possible and she let me get away with it.... trust me they have ways of doing things!

I don't think there would be an elder women working at EB games lol..... but there maybe a cute chick that might be attracted to you so you can take advantage of that.

TFOAF I am just saying how I returned something that I was not supposed to to get refund just to give you some ideas of how you can do it with your situation.

Just go to the store, tell the lady/man/elderly lady/cute chick, whoever is behind the counter, that you opened up the game, guitar and all, and it does not work. They will then give you a brand new one in the original packaging and you will still have your receipt. Now you go to a different EB games with your receipt and new guitar hero in the package and just say you dont want it and you're returning it. I don't see how this wouldn't work.

16-01-2008 12:02:15

Just go to walmart, say it doesn't work, and you want store credit, they will give you store credit and you buy the xbox version (if they have it)

That's not the point.

How about he just sells the thing on ebay/CL, take the proceeds+some extra cash to actually buy the 360 version. That's what I do when I have something used that I don't want anymore, instead of finding a way to ripoff someone. shrug He bought the wii game, he didn't take it out for a free extended rental.

Jeremiah1218

16-01-2008 13:34:22

Its not ripping anyone off though...they can still resell the wii game because its not like its really broken. Even if they didn't resell it, the price of one Guitar Hero game isn't even a crumb compared to what the company makes so I'm sure they won't miss it.

Who cares if it's a crumb of what they make, or 45% of what they make? Okay, so they're not being ripped off if it's just one Guitar Hero game. What about 2, 3, 5, 10? The definition of theft is very black and white. The amount you steal doesn't determine if it's a crime or not, just the degree of the crime.

A no opened video game return policy is extremely common, if not standard, across all stores. Such a policy means you don't have the right to returned opened games, and doing so fraudulently is theft. Sometimes you just have to buck up and (gasp) act ethically. Sell your Wii version for whatever you can get, and put that towards the 360 version. Yeah, it sucks, but that's life.

This is exactly what I was trying to point out. It's not very common that stores will let you return it when it is opened.

Jeremiah1218

16-01-2008 16:28:32

The point I was making is not that its OK to "steal" if you even wanna call it that, but rather that if you return an opened game, the store can still resell it especially because it sounds like Foafs game works perfectly fine he just doesn't want it anymore. Therefore all they have to do is repackage it which I'm sure isn't too hard and then they sell it to someone else and get their money right back. I don't think this is unethical at all. When I said the price of one really doesn't matter to them all I was sayin is that if for some unknown reason they couldn't resell the guitar and game I'm sure they aren't gonna care.

I think it all comes down to TFOAF's beliefs. If he has used the Wii's version alot of even a few times and would consider it to be 'Used', then no I would not take it back, i think that would be unethical. However, If he opened it and realized he would rather have the xbox one and maybe only tried it once or twice, then I would think thats like getting a sweater that you realize you dont like and returning it. The reason they dont like open package returns on software and games is becuase it is easy to Pirate, however, if he knows the truth is that he is not pirating it and is just wanting to swap an unused open product, then I would say thats ok.

Never will know if they will allow it or not until you try. Even if you can't take it back, GH3 for the Wii is hard to find in stores. I am sure if you sold it on ebay, you would be able to get close to the original price. Its originally like 89 dollars I believe, I just checked ebay and most were selling roughly between 75 and 90 dollars. So if you cant take it back, at least you may only lookse 10 or 15 dollars by selling it on ebay.

doylnea

17-01-2008 09:16:19

Last I looked the GH3 for Wii was selling for a premium on eBay. If that's the case, sell it on eBay and take the proceeds/profits and buy whatever you want.

Give the proceeds/profits to the Australian party kid fund. lol
