I am 21... 5'11 155lbs, look skinny for my height.. I got a baby face, I can't grow facial hair that would cover half of my face, just some baby mustache and some on my chin...

To be honest, I don't look 21, I get it a lot, especially when I was applying for jobs, they all ask me how old I was because they said "You need to be 18 to work here".. so I guess I look under 18......

I try to dress as masculine or at least as my age as possible.. but somehow it never works out... I really like 26 year old women lol. hmmm how to look masculine/men?

Do you wear "big" clothes? Try wearing more form-fitting clothing...and if you'll look bigger if you wear layers (i.e. for business casual, try wearing a button-up under a nice argyle sweater). If your facial hair isn't "full", shave it all. What kind of haircut do you have?

P.S. I'm right around 6', and weigh just a bit more than you...and people have said I have (or at least had, haven't heard it in a while) a "baby face" - but I don't really get anyone who thinks I'm too much younger than I am (I'm 22).

I wear fitted clothes (Abercrombie&Fitch, Hollister) but I stopped buying clothes from them..... because I noticed it just making me look like a teeny bopper.. I just started wearing plain/thin line stripes noticeable from a feet away.. Fitted Longsleeve shirt and wear brown shoes such doc martens lol and my hair is fine, its really big and thick

I think i just really need to work out.. and get bigger

You're right about the A&F and Hollister...mostly just kids wear brands where the brand name is plastered across every inch of the article. B&R, Express, Guess, J Crew..all good picks.

14-01-2008 14:37:03

Getting "bigger" won't make you look older. I've seen lots of pumped up teenagers, they still look like teenagers.

Although I can grow facial hair (and have worn a 'stache and goatee for years), mine doesn't grow particularly thick and fast, either. I've always looked younger than my years, but it's never bothered me. And trust me, when you get to be my age, you'll appreciate it. People are envious. )

Beyond the first (visual) impression, you can also convey maturity in the way you carry yourself, in the way you talk, act, etc. So those would be good areas to target, maybe.

True, I know someday I will appreciate my baby face

but really I like girls who are not older than 5 years from me. I can't mack on them since I get the impression of their little brother............. lol

If you like nice, expensive clothes I would recommend something that an older person might wear such as Ralph Lauren. The stuff isn't extremely tight like A&F and still can be "fitted" if that's what you liked about A&F. I'm not fashion consultant but just suggesting an alternative. )

The way you act really does leave an impression on people. Learn a bigger vocabulary and use it but don't overdo it. Oh and yes, do work out and get bigger. You'll seem like a well educated and healthy young man and there is nothing wrong with that. The way you mentally picture yourself is very important also. If you view yourself as a boy then you might tend to act like it. If someone makes a misjudgment about your age just laugh it off and say say that you're actually 21. Doesn't sound hard to me. )

As others say, the way you carry yourself has a much larger influence than the way you look. (Unfortunately, it's a lot harder to fake or control.) The only thing you can really do is "mature," whatever that means. Nothing that the internet can really help you with.

I agree with how you should view yourself mentally.. but it's just hard when several people already told you that you don't look like it. Believe me man, I never do immature things that little boys would do....... I hate it when 16 year old girls hit on me, they're a tease and all I could think of is "Statutory rape" lmaooooo

I bought a bunch of sweaters from Target that were on clearance.

I can't stand shopping at PacSun or Anchor Blue because of the highschool kid image. American Eagle is too expensive and I usually only like to buy the polos and sometimes jeans. Aeropostale also has nice jeans.. but for shirts I like Target, t-shirts, button ups, and all that.

I think in some states the consent age is 16, But i think thats only if the other person is within 2 years of age. I am not sure though. Just settle for 18 year olds and remember the movie Dazed and Confused

"That's what I love about these high school girls, man. I get older, they stay the same age."

That advice will be heaven;)

I'm not a guy, but I understand what you're saying. Clear up til I was nearly 30, I would sometimes get carded and some people would mistake me for being much younger. When I was your age, it really did bother me, it just got really irritating.

Everyone always told me that I'd appreciate it when I got older, so not to be annoyed or offended by it. I'm now 38 and still look younger than I really am, which by the way, now it really is great and flattering!!

The only advice I really have is it's just something that comes naturally.

You really can't change all that much and I think a mustache might make you look like you're trying too hard to look older and be worse than being clean shaven. A 500 shadow look can make you look older, but it doesn't sound like you can do that.

Bottom line You may not like it now, but you really will appreciate it later, although I know you're tired of hearing that because I was too!

Hey, puppeteer. I've got the same problem you do. I'm not a hairy guy. I'm super skinny. It takes like two weeks for hair to grow above my lips. I weigh 125 pounds. I'm 5' 7". I'm not muscular. And I don't look 18. My mom has a picture of me and my 14 year old sister at work, and they thought we were twins, and thought I was 14. So, you're not the only one. )

I hate it though. I don't really like my body type at all.

And on top of it all, I have a big nose.

You don't realize how lucky you are. I'm 21 and shaving everyday is just retarded. Before I had my current job, I didn't worry about it, but now I gotta keep control of the facial hair. Trust me, in a few years you'll wish you had that baby face back.

I worked at Hollister when I was 18, I avoided all the brand-plastered clothing. Right now I avoid Hollister, am starting to avoid Abercrombie & Fitch (wayyyyy too much brand plastering, I only get the non-plastered stuff) and I'm now buying Ruehl 925. They're also owned by Abercrombie & Fitch, but they were released to target the college/post-college crowd. They had minimal branding and such and did not have an online store (the store experience is AMAZING, I suggest you go to one to check it out yourself). Lately I hear they're trying to transform it into "Abercrombie 2.0", with more brand plastering and a full online store set to launch soon (they currently only sell fragrances and leather bags on the site). They initially tried to model themselves as an "exclusive" sort of store, since there's literally no name out front (just like Hollister), and the theme is a Greenwich Village style building/home.

I'm also getting more stuff from H&M these days (I love simple/unplastered stuff) especially their solid hoodies for like $20 each. I still buy witty/funny shirts from Threadless as a conversation icebreaker.

Ew.
Go with some of the nicer stuff.
True Religion, 7, Rock & Republic.
I'm a real big fan of Lacoste and Ralph Lauren for polos.
Try sweaters from places like Express, J.Crew, Banana Republic or Guess. They definitely have nice stuff.
I'm also a big fan of Armani Exchange, but they sort of fall into that category of brand plastering.

I never said it was gay, but my friends rag on me all the time for wearing sweaters and button ups. I mainly do it to get out of wearing a tie, because they told me if I have a sweater on, no need to wear a tie -- so sweater it is!

Gay? Since when is dressing formally considered gay? It's called class, not every woman wants a T-shirt/jeans/nasty sneakers wearing guy.

Jams44

American Apparel and Urban Outfitters for me. I'm notoriously known for wearing the most obscure things that most guys aren't comfortable wearing. Or at least colors, I don't mind bright red pants every now and then or a pink polka dot hoodie. Trust me, if girls minded, then I probably wouldn't dress the way I do ) . Be yourself and don't overplay it.

Buckle is a cool store. It's kind of expensive though. I don't want to pay $50+ for a shirt. ?

Personally, I buy jeans at AE because they're fairly cheap and they look just like the stuff anywhere else, get hoodies or long sleeve shirts and etc at PacSun (they have cool stuff sometimes), then buy the occasional collar shirt at Hollister because I like the way they fit better than other places. But yeah I also hate that plastered name branding and I always try to avoid it. If I bought a shirt that said HOLLISTER in big font right across the front I'd feel d00shee. But yeah, I wouldn't really consider my wardrobe something that'll make you look older. ;)
