Burned my tongue...

Ugh, I never burned my tongue this severely before. I burned it on hot chocolate yesterday. It was way too hot, and the cool whip on it was disguising its actual temperature, so when I took a big gulp...well, you know how it ended. Now, my tongue bothers me...feels like sand paper. My throat got burned a little too, that just feels weird. And there's this little thing under my tongue, like a flap, and when I move my tongue it, it feels "detached", kind of, and moves up and down.
What do I do? I'm moreso worried about that flap.

Alright, CG. Is that really necessary? I'm not in a good mood, I don't feel well, and I just wanted to know if everything's going to be okay, especially with that little flap of whatever under my tongue. It feels like it detached itself from my tongue.

A flap under your tongue detached? My uncle had that one time when he bit into the pizza before it cooled, his tongue turned black and shit and he had to have it removed.

The fact that you're asking for medical advice on burnt skin in your tongue makes it necessary. I mean come on, why would it be any more serious than the skin's surface being burned, and it having to heal?
Try putting a steak on it.

Hey man, I have burned the crap out of my tongue many times. And I have even had it where a bit of skin came off. It sucks, but just give it a few days and it will get better.

No, I don't post about everything, and maybe he does post about too much stuff, but he is probably heart sick over his dad. He just posted that his dad needs chemo earlier today. So I just think he should be given a break.

You'd think he'd come here for comic relief. We're not exactly supposed to be emotional support here. He shouldn't have to rely on this internet forum for that. Although we all have offered our condolences to him in his thread and we're sorry for him, he can't expect us to not poke fun at strange threads like this --- especially when he's made ones similar to this just for the attention.

Yes, I did. I feel bad for him, because that's not a situation I would wish on anyone. I sincerely hope his dad gets better.

Exactly what CG said. FOAFY -- God love him -- has made more posts than we can possibly count about such things before the unfortunate circumstances surrounding his dad. Which I'll note nobody has made fun of (and they better not).
But he should know full well, based upon his history here, that this type of post is exactly why he's famous around here as the official FiPG teasing target.
TFOAF, I do feel for you with your family situation, but you have to understand how things are with you around here. Normally you take these teasings in stride, so I'm assuming you're a little extra sensitive what with your dad's situation and all. In light of that, perhaps you'll want to refrain from exposing yourself to more than you can handle by randomly posting here. Just some friendly advice.

You should be. Drinking hot chocolate that is too warm can obviously cause more damage than just killing the surface tissue. Common sense wouldn't tell you that the dead tissue will fall away, and new tissue grown, as part of the healing process. As a grown adult, it's perfectly normal to be scared by this.

don't worry about it, unless it was a 3rd degree burn to the tongue, it'll be fine in a week. The tongue has stem cells which allow for a new layer/recover normally within a week or two.
