Someone edited his wikipedia page to say he was dead.
Rumors started getting out, and he had to edit the page himself lol.
I think the Sinbad rumor happened twice actually. That makes it twice as funny.

Just watched a History Channel retrospective on his life (originally aired in 2005). He was a self-aggrandizing SOB, but certainly an original.

One comment he made stuck with me. He recanted a time he went to a bar in New Mexico, where two guys were regaling each other with stories about times they had seen him. One said he saw EK jump "100 cars" in Los Angeles; the other said he saw EK jump the Grand Canyon. The History Channel cut to footage of EK stating unequivocally that he never even attempted to jump the Grand Canyon (it was the Snake River Canyon in Idaho that he attempted, and failed to jump) nor 100 cars (his record was 52). But his concern was that he had been caricatured by comic books, which made him out to be a super-hero. "If I had to live up to the image people have of me, I won't live a year," he said.

To me, the difference between jumping ~50 cars and ~100 is negligible. He was the first of a long chain of adrenaline junkies, and what he did is far more pure than the self-defeating jackasses that are popular today.

I will say that he gave far too little credit (and too much blame) to his engineers and other advisers, but overall, he was a bad ass.
