What do you mean by "abused"???

izzyr34

30-11-2007 13:32:57

Well, it turns out that people have gotten their accounts put on hold or "frozen" for no reason, and could not access their accounts or money for at least 180 days!! others have gotten money taken out of their bank accounts.

Yeah that's been around for a while. They do suck, and that's why I've never verified my paypal account which would give them access to my bank account.

As a business they make sure they are strictly a go-between, and are never liable for anyone's losses. It's a given that they have to do that, but the ways they do it are ridiculous at times. Both seller and buyer protection are a joke.

p.s. That being said, they are paying back 20% of your purchase at several online stores so try to take advantage of it.

That site and others like it have been around for years. I'm surprised if you know anything about PayPal at all, that you weren't already aware of them.

Personally, I love PayPal. I've been a customer now for lichecks accountli 6 years 6 months 10 days. Never had a problem. OTOH I've had probably a half-dozen different problems with my brick & mortar [b666fddca1e]banks[/b666fddca1e] over the same period.

Like any other major corporation with millions of customers, even if only 1% have been screwed, that amounts to tens or hundreds of thousands of very vocal complaints (and rightly so). But don't lose sight of the other 99% (i.e. millions) who have not had a problem. Odds are if you are responsible with your account, you will never have a bad experience.

PayPal abuses me. I love PayPal. I've had it for nearly 3 years already. Not a problem...ever.

Sometimes they slap my ass when I spend too much money, but I guess that's a good thing.

The worst part about paypal is their seller protection on ebay purchases. This has happened to me twice now...

A foreign bidder pays with PayPal and pays for the slowest shipping service. A few days after I ship the item, they file a complaint with paypal saying they never got the item. PayPal then demands from me signature confirmation that the item has been received, but since it has not had enough time to get there, I can't give them anything. (also, most countries don't even allow signature confirmation). So PayPal gives them their money back....and they get the item...

The easiest solution to that is to NOT accept foreign bidders. I've always dictated that since I started selling on eBay, and I've never had any issues with buyers. Not to say that US buyers can't and haven't tried the same crap before, but as you say it's a lot easier to cover your ass when dealing strictly inside the US. Which is why that's the only way I eBay.

Oh my god, wow!
That's rediculous, especially if it happened to you twice!

Personally, I've never had a problem with PayPal and have been using them for quite a few years now. I have a premier business and it works flawlessly.
The only problem I have is that once in a while I can't use the instant payment via bank feature. I believe that only happens when I try to send large sums of money and is a security check of some sort.

well something happened to me today, they sent me an e-mail saying that someone was trying to access my account and that I have to follow a link in order to stop that. But the link did not work, what should I do???

roll Don't click the link for one. It's a phishing scam (Google it). If you already entered your login info using that link, you're screwed. Also, no refs in your signature.

I wish there was an "intarwebz manuel" people would have to read before connecting to the tubes.

how about paypal sending your information through double click?

for a "bank" that sounds a little fishy to me.

I've personally never had any bad experiences with PayPal, but I've heard so many horror stories about the service across many internet forums. The phishing scams are probably the biggest annoyance with PayPal, but they're very easy to detect.

dmorris68

01-12-2007 21:48:27

The phishing scams aren't PayPal's fault, and they go out of their way to educate people on avoiding them. PayPal is, for all intents and purposes, a bank, and all banks are subject to phishing scams -- I've gotten far more for banks than I have for PayPal.

I guess I take a lot for granted seeing as how I make my living in front of a PC and being online, but I just boggles my mind that there are people in this day and age, that can manage to get themselves a computer and get online, know enough to find, join & post in forums, complete freebie sites, and yet don't seem to understand what a blatant phishing attempt is. I thought by now that pretty much everybody in the world with an e-mail address was wise to them, but I guess not... otherwise the scammers would have given up by now.

jwwws

02-12-2007 07:16:34

Just reiterate my previous post.

The PayPal Security Key ($5 I think it cost me) is a nice piece of mind for those who are unsure about the various dishonest phishing scams out there. In addition to needing your login and password, the Secure-ID provides a 6 digit code that changes every 30 seconds. That way, if I do make a mistake and click on a bogus, fraudulent email, I'm protected.

It makes me feel better, which I guess is my point and well worth $5 for a little added protection for my bank account(s).
