Tick repellent for dogs?

I've been finding a number of ticks on my Sheltie puppy (~9 months old) the past few days. He's been vaccinated for Lyme disease twice already a few months ago, so I'm not too worried about the Lyme disease thing. I just want those damn ticks to stop biting my dog and also I don't want to worry about having ticks in my house.

Around my house there isn't much wild brush or tall grass, but deer do pass by quite often. It seems like after I take him out to pee or poop, I'll find a new tick on him even though he's just been outside a few minutes on the yard.

Now my question is, for anyone who has a dog, what type of flea/tick repellent do you use? I've been using this flea and tick spray that is supposed to repel those things, but I want to get something a little more effective. So what type of repellent do you use and how is your experience with it?

I give my dog garlic tabs and it keeps the fleas and ticks away. I get them from a company called Sringtime Inc. If you don't want to spend the money on the tabs you can mix garlic powder in with an egg and it will work just as well. The garlic takes about a week to become effective because it has to get into the animal's system.

I find the only thing that really works well is Frontline. It kills both fleas and ticks. It's a bit pricey but works. The department store stuff? Fugettaboutit. Don't work. If you get Frontline Plus, it also controls flea eggs, which are not killed by regular Frontline.

Yes it's really true. I just found out about it a few years ago. I try to use natural products for my dogs whenever possible.

I use K9 Advantix also but I know garlic works well. My father used it as a wormer (not heartworm) stomach parasites. He would give our dog a clove of garlic once a month. Stick it in a piece of hotdog or meat.

Good luck. BTW never try pulling ticks off - their biter claws will stay in the skin. You can carefully use a hot match head on it back and they will back out and then grab it.
