So I'm interested in starting this little "sport" since I got a new GPS system.
Anyone here already involved? Seems like a fun little thing to do to get exercise and see new things.

i've done it before, but never really got into it... just did a few searches locally...
I have a good friend that is in to it so i've gone with him a few times... it can be fun, but it is kinda boreing by yourself... just depends on your mood durring the day i guess...

Sounds awesome but also sounds really lame.
i.e. cool concept, does not seem worth it to do.

It's pretty cool. I've done it before with my dad who does it. It gets better if you do complicated ones.

My dad does it all the time he loves it. He says it gives him an excuse to go places he never would have. So in that sense its cool. Dont expect to find anything neat just have fun looking. Its crazy when you find out how these things are all over the place.

Weirdness. I'm surprised so many members here are familiar with this and do this. I'm also surprised that I haven't heard of it. shock

What's funny is the way I found out about it I was reading a person's blog or something about Linux and they mentioned Geocaching with a contextual link. I clicked it and I became side-tracked. Wanting to get into it, I used some gift money to buy a Garmin Legend. It not only comes in handy for geocaching, but I've used it on bike rides to plot my path, hiking, etc.

My Magellen Maestro has a add-on where you can install Geocache locations into the POI site. Actually, I found out about it off their site and I think I'm going to give it a shot when Christmas break starts.

I've wanted to get into this for a while. I really like orienteering and this is like that only on a much grander scale.

I had the day off from school today and went! All I used was an iPhone and two friends. IT WAS FUCKING BADASS! I'm not even kidding, I've had the most fun we've had in ages. We did all the 3+ difficulty ones (only got in 4 for the day) but it was great. At one point, I was wading my hands in water (covered in ice), while it snowing, to look for a bottle that was on the border of a lake. It was ridiculous! I banked out with a geocoin that I hope to plant somewhere else in the future. This is great phone and everyone should do it!

I really really want to go but am reluctant to do it by myself and really have no one to do it with.

I'm going into the major Chicago ones next. I think it will be an adventure. To freak my friends out I'll find all the ones in like Cabrini Green so we can shivved for crack. It's going to be great.

Don't know if I've mentioned in this thread already, but consider signing up for the Geocaching.com premium membership. It's completely worth it. Only $3/month. I get it for the .gpxurl==http://=http:///url files that contain all the detailed cache info. You can also set up a pocket query that will find all caches along a route. That way, you can hit them all in succession. So...you're using the iPhone as the GPS [i6c9750050e]and[/i6c9750050e] cache page?

This does seem like it would be something fun to do when traveling. However, I doubt there are many up in North Dakota where I live....Maybe Minnesota. liShrugli

Yeah, no problem. That's in fact the main "official" site for geocaching. When I first started geocaching (before I had a GPS unit) I tried finding a couple caches using just Google maps. It was hard, but fun wink

Ya, it worked out pretty well. My friend has his iPhone with the geocaching.com website with all the objectives and I had mine with Google maps and we would type in the coordinates. Ting is, it won't track you, so you don't actually no where you are unless you can tell from a satellite image (top view). With the hints though we managed to find everything.
