Since I turned 21 - I have been wanting to get into sports betting - mainly the straight bets for now. Anyone else bet on any sports (mainly NFL or college)?

Tonight's Game
Tennessee Titans @ Denver Broncos

Tennessee +1 1/2
Denver - 1 1/2

I placed my money on Tennessee for the sole fact I think Tennessee wins outright with the legs on Vince and the power of Ledale.

As a Titans fan, I'm glad to see someone else that hopes they win tonight's game!

The Titans are very up and down. They can play brilliantly one week and totally blow the next week. Last week they played some of the worst football I think they have played since last season, and it couldn't have come at a worse time. A win against the Jags would have pretty much sealed 2nd place in the division and given us a chance at overtaking the Colts.

The Broncos are a decent team. It will be interesting to see Jay Cutler play a Tennessee team. )

In terms of betting, no I never have, outside of fantasy football stuff.

I tend not to bet on the road team unless I'm getting favorable odds. This should be a low scoring game maybe 13-10 or something. I consider Tenn better but considering the game is on the road there are too many variables to put a confident bet on that line.

Hainsworth is back for the Titans -- or should be. And with Tennessee with one of the best Run D's in the game, I expect Jay to have to throw much more than he is used to.

I made a bet on a few teams I thought would win for sure in one of the earlier weeks in the NFL and I lost $20 so ever since then I have been kinda reluctant to bet again. The NFL is just too damn unpredictable and anything can happen, especially this season...When I do bet though I like to use Bodog, its really easy to setup and when you win you can just transfer the money right to your bank account.

i've made a few sports bets, but i always suck at them... so i just stick to poker, i'd like to do sports betting if I was good at it... and could actually make money...

ya its hard to consistently make money betting on sports. I try to restrict my betting to important playoff games, the Final four, Superbowl, and UFC fights. Usually I'm going to watch the major events and if I'm with friends we usually make a friendly wager just to spice things up.

For any individual regular season game usually the best bets are placed on current trends within the sport. Has an NFl team been giving up a lot of points? If they are playing a team that scores a lot go with the over on that game. Has an Nba team started to tank games? bet a lot on them losing.

Always a good rule to bet on the most dominant(player or team) in their respecitve sport. When I was in Vegas I made a good profit since i placed money on Florida in 2 final four games, Tennesee women's(candice Parker), I bet on reg season game (Kobe at home when he was scoring 40+ points for 10 games straight), and on Denver versus a team that was tanking. Would've bet on Micheal Phelps, tiger Woods, and Roger Federer if I could of.

Overall their are too many variables to consider. Often a sure thing is far from it. The laws of averages always catch up to a team. Often times the more talented team will become complacent and will have a letdown against an inferior opponent

I get a lot of grief from my friends for not gambling more - poker, betting on sports, etc. However, if I choose to gamble, I'd rather it be on something I can control, like an individual sport in which I'm participating. For example, I'll wager almost any amount of money against an opponent or opponent team if I'm playing golf, and I know my competition, because while I can't control all the variables on the course, I feel like I can control more of them than someone else can control of mine.

And college is any better? With teams like Stanford, and University of Monroe beating USC and Alabama respectfully?

For next week I think I am going to put the chips on the Pats as they go and face a depleted (and likely no mcNabb) Eagles.

you will get your head handed to you more with the nfl than you will college football. the biggest reason is, there are more college games out there to spread the attention of the bookmakers. with the nfl there are only 16 games each week.

plus, there is more parity in the nfl than college where you have top 5, 10 and 25 teams going up against unranked teams in and out of conference. upsets are going to happen, but if you consistently take the better teams to cover you are going to do well.

here's a story i was JUST reading on foxsports

[quotebbeebd5acf]Of course, this run has generated some interesting propositions. Going into Week 7, the prospect of an undefeated season was considered unlikely. A $100 bet would get you $270. Now those odds have all but turned upside down. The Pats are minus-160 to go undefeated, meaning you have to bet $160 to win $100.

[bbbeebd5acf]For the record, they're giving 18 points against the Eagles this Sunday, 22 if Donovan McNabb doesn't play. Another point of interest they're 24.5-point favorites against Miami next month. [/bbbeebd5acf]Part of the reason, Van Patten said, is Don Shula, coach of the '72 Dolphins, who recently suggested that Belichick's team might deserve an asterisk on account of Spygate. [/quotebbeebd5acf]

i cannot imagine giving 18-22 or 24.5 to another nfl team.

here is the link to the story
http//msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7467484?MSNHPHMA

here is a link to the lines for this week's nfl games
http//covers.usatoday.com/data/odds.aspx

pick the games just for fun and see how you do.

on another board i was in, we had an ncaa "lock of the week" contest using the betus lines. maybe we can do something like that next year for the nfl/ncaa.

I put my free play on the Pats, even with a 20 point spread.

And then I put the rest on Green Bay over the Lions. The Lions are a far different team than they started the season.

All 3 games were ridiculously strong bets...not sure why the lines only seemed accurate for Indy/Atlanta.
