LOVE the Walkie Talkies!

Just got the Audiovox walkie-talkies today from Great Fun. They take 5 batteries each shock , and supposedly have a range of up to 7 miles. The package says you actually need an FCC license to use them, which I looked into and it costs like $80! ( I don't know how they would enforce it if you used them without a license wink )
Anyway - they actually work really well and are a great giveaway for a $1 trial offer! They cost like 50 bucks on amazon. Highly recommended offer and Great Fun isn't too bad either if you decide to keep it for $8.99 a month.

Do you really need an FCC license? That strikes me as odd.

how long did great fun take to credit?

Great Fun credited in like 3 days and then it took 3 weeks for the walkies to get here.
And yes, you really do need an FCC license for these walkies - it says so right on the package and also the owner's manual tells you how to get one. They are GPRS which means they have a high enough transmission power (and therefore the long range) to require the license.
Like I said, I'm not sure how they enforce it though. They are primarily designed for going camping, hiking, etc. I guess they would also be cool to have if you're with a bunch of people at a mall or amusement park or something.
Definitely worth $1 - even if you don't think you need them!

would be great at football games, etc.
Do they automatically ship it if you sign up, or do you have to request them?
And what band are they?

You fill out a form after you complete the offer. I received them and I like them.
Mine take 4 batteries, not 5.
Mine are Audiovox, so maybe we got different ones.

It will only have a range of seven miles in the middle of Kansas lol )
Me and my extended family used to use a set of walkie talkies up at my aunt's ski condo. They were great for when lunch was ready... my aunt would just get on the walkie and announce to everyone on the slopes to come back in. We even had code names, I believe... "Mother Hen to Big Red... Mother Hen to Big Red... return to the nest."
Yes, we are a family of huge nerds. )
The best is when we realized that there were quite a few other groups out there who had the same walkies on the same frequency. My younger cousin got ahold of one of them, and as soon as some kid would get on the other end with, "Mom?" he'd say in his best girlie-voice "Yes, son it's me. You have to come in now." I don't know how old these kids were, but it worked. You'd hear so much whining on the other end... "Awww, mom, come on! Do I have to?" "Don't talk back to me. Come in now. This conversation is over."
Ahh, the tomfoolery possible with a set of walkie-talkies. )
