Hey all,

I was just watching Manswers last night after TUF (finally, Hughes gets a win!), and they did a segment about the profit of going to sperm banks for some green. To sum it up, Manswers informed me that sperm banks look for qualified candidates (MUST have a bachelor's degree, as well as being a minimum of 5'9", and test negative for any STDs/STIs, or HIV or AIDs), and that if you are qualified, they take a sample of your sperm, and freeze it for 6 months. They do this to allow time to see if the sperm develops HIV, and to make sure you have enough sperm/your sperm are strong enough to survive a freezing, and still be able to impregnate someone (50%-80% of sperm die during freezing).

Well, after ALL of that, they got down to the cash part of it. And... WOW. It freaked me out. The sperm bank they went to (in California, I believe) paid between $500 and $600 per deposit, and that you could depoist every 2 or 3 days (at LEAST twice a week). Now, doing some simple math $1,000/week X 52 weeks in the year = $52,000 just for a little tug and pull!!

So, can anyone clarify this for me? Like, are there people here who've gone to sperm banks (for education purposes, I'm sure) that can confirm any of this? Can you really rake in a grand a week, ON TOP of whatever you make at your job (provided you don't quit to pull pud), by visiting sperm banks? Is there a limit to the amount of donations that can be made in a month/year? Are there paying sperm banks in Canada?

Oh, and please put all moral/ethical issues aside, and just answer the questions, if you're knowledgeable on the subject. Also, I probably won't be around to stir the pot on this subject until Sunday evening, as I'll be headed "back home" for the weekend.

i think your numbers are exaggerated but at least are in the same magnitude. you might have better luck with plasma (easier requirements)

The only sperm banks I've ever used actually cost me money. Also, for some reason, they're only open at night and are always in the dodgy parts of town.

Weird.

Well, I don't rightly know if my numbers are exaggerated I'm only going on the info Manswers gave me, so you know it's credible. And plasma is rough, man. You gotta sit in that chair for, like 2 hours, to allow your blood to go through the centrifuge, and get back into you. I can't see a sperm bank deposit taking more than 10 minutes (5 is even a stretch.. get it? "Stretch"? Ahhh...), and the donation process would have to be less painful ;) Oh, and plasma donations in Canada are just that DONATIONS. No $$.

And thanks TSJ, that's the kind of stuff I was wondering. Like, how were people's experiences with sperm banks. And, if I may ask how did it cost you money?

I saw that as well -- but you have to be drug free, and with a degree so I lose on those parts. I will stick to dumping my semen in orifices.

[quote6209649d64]One center advertises rates of $1 to $45, depending on the quality of sample. Another center promises up to $200 a week for weekly donations for 6 months. The thing is, it's relatively easy to get sperm (much easier than to get eggs, at least) so don't plan on retiring from your sperm donation proceeds. But don't be despondent. High quality sperm from a good candidate will get a very good price (several thousand dollars a year). But to find banks that pay that much (and that won't sell your baby's organs in Nicaragua), we again advise you to ask your doctor for a recommendation. It's not easy to get the top money, but it's definitely worth a shot.[/quote6209649d64]

Will they still let you donate if you have some type of disease/sickness that is not transmitted through the blood? Or do they want people to be [i5799128680]completely[/i5799128680] 'clean', regardless. ?

lol, I love that the other thread got killed by discussion of my age.

Anyway, I've grown since that thread! So I should be good to donate in a couple years.

Personally, I feel it's my social responsibility to impregnate as many women as possible. My DNA is too valuable to go to waste.
