Thanks for sharing the video Twon. That was great! Are you sore yet? I wonder how much the girls get paid to walk around half naked at an amateur event.

Wow, from your description I thought you were going to be out right away, but that wasn't a short fight. I thought you did quite well (I don't know the sport). You took a lot of blows before going down, and gave lots back. Your footwork was better I think too - he mostly used upper body. Those girls are hot - a good reason to get back in the ring!

You have a Ben Rothwell figure. Training on beers and burgers... ;)

Just kidding. You have to give props to anyone that gives that a shot. I wish I would have gotten into Mui Thai or BJJ when I was younger.

More like Joe Riggs (soon). I used to walk around at close to 240. Now I am walking at 185. I am hoping to continue down to 175 and then do a bit of cutting for my next fight (if I do it again).

I wish that I had started earlier as well. I've been doing Muay Thai for almost 3 years. The one positive from this weekend was that my Muay Ajarn (master) promoted me to Muay Kru (teacher) because I have put in a lot of work with our club on my own time, I work with the beginners a lot to show them the fundimentals, and I stepped into the ring.

Yeah, you had some nice, fierce, leg kicks to start the fight, but you could see as soon as he hit you, that you didn't like being punched in the face. I can't blame you, I don't know who does enjoy a good smack to the ol' kisser.

But, that was probably the turning point of the fight for you. Once you got a good smackin' to the noggin, you looked quite timid. If you could've landed a few strikes to his head yourself, it probably would've bolstered your confidence some, and the fight may have ended differently.

Also, he looked more experienced than you, and definitely more aggressive. Is this true? I mean, what can you expect if someone making his debut fight is fighting someone with a bit of ring experience?

Regardless, don't take the criticism people offer here to be offensive. It's quite likely that you know yourself what you have to do to improve better than we do. From my perspective, you simply need to get the confidence built up to get back in the ring, and KNOW you're going to win. Also, work on your fist striking your legs looked good, but the hands left something to be desired. And, as you can attest to, you're more likely to get knocked out from strikes to the head.

Oh, and if you want to be a crowd-pleaser, work on some flying knees, and spinning elbows/backhands (whichever is legal under the rules you fight under), they always get people excited whether you win or lose.

One last thing you got a trophy, didn'tcha?! That's incentive enough to get back in the ring!!

You nailed it... After I got hit really hard the first time. It was hard for me to put it out of my head. I don't know why my hands weren't working better. I usually throw them and limit my kicking. Plus I didn't clinch which was my gmae plan. I figured he was going to be taller than me so I thought that I would get inside and clinch then throw knees. What can I say, it didn't work out that way...

Well you had a game play going in, and you didn't execute that plan and look what happened. I would recommend staying to the gameplan as much as possible because it was designed to help you win.

I know you will hate me for this but, Andy Wang is a GnP kind of guy, and when he got in the ring he tried to stand up, and got knocked out. You have to stick to the gameplan, this guy was taller than you and like Frank said, was more experienced. But you need to take this loss and turn it in to 5 more victories.

It is the most widely known example of someone abandoning the game plan and end in defeat.

I totally agree with you. I fucked up big time. He basically made me look like I didn't belong in there... I don't know if I will do it again or not. I may just stick to grappling...

bballp6699

05-11-2007 09:06:15

Nah, dude. You definitely should go in there again. Just learn from your mistakes and try again. You're not gonna win every fight.

TryinToGetPaid

05-11-2007 09:13:13

Agreed. Focus on your blocking, I noticed he was able to punch you even though you had your block up and his uppercut was killing you when you would put your head down.

hehehhehe

05-11-2007 09:21:53

Yeah you have to try again, it's only one fight. It seems you've put in too much work into this to stop now.

Fr1zzank

05-11-2007 09:22:02

Just need to toughen that jaw up, man. Y'know, either get some hardcore sparring in, where you take a LOT of shots to the ol' mandible; or perfect your striking to the point where you never get hit -_-

But really, so what if you got knocked out? Do you think you're the first person to ever get knocked out in his debut fight? Do you think you would've felt bad if you knocked his ass out? Do you think he would give up? Get back in there, get the shit knocked out of you a few more times (learn to love it), and then start doling out the shit kickings!!

And hey, since you love the Trailer Park Boys so much, come on down to Nova Scotia and train here. Go to Bubbles Mansion (yes, a bar made by Bubbles from TPB) and have some drinks. I'll buy you a beer.

bballp6699

05-11-2007 09:25:23

I agree on the blocking. It looked like you were really scared of getting hit. Like you were falling back every time he swung. Put you out of position a lot. Fix that and you should be alright.
