So I went to a blaqk audio concert last night at a club in LA and I had work this morning at 2am. So, naturally, I was speeding and that trying to get home so I could take a small nap before I had to go in.

So I'm about 15mins away from my exit ramp when I see flashing blue and reds behind me. This was my first time being pulled over and I was like "shit shit shit". Anyway, the officer ended up giving me a ticket for crossing over a double yellow carpool lane line and "let me go for speeding".

I think that the carpool fine is worse than the speeding one, which sucks. Anyone know how much an average crossing the line ticket costs? Also, should I show up to court and see plead guilty?

This is my first traffic ticket and it pisses me off because I never drive on the freeway, this was my second time on it, and I never come out of the carpool lane either, I just happened to cross out at that time. And I thought I checked for cops too P

No point in going to plead guilty, you only go to try to contest the ticket. First ticket, no biggie, just don't get anymore.

Except it's like a $371 fine, at LEAST.

I'm researching to see if it will put a point on my record.

Yeah, costs a lot, but since first, can do traffic school so it doesnt show up.

not all states have the traffic school...

you may be able to talk to the judge and get out of it, since it is your first expense...

Go to court and plead NOT guilty. Say you were courteous & it was your first ticket. Almost always the amount is lowered if you go to court, and I believe if it is, no points or anything go on your record. No contest & guilty and the judge pretty much has to give you the full fine. Also if your in court & the cop says he let you off easy with just a carpool fine state that there is no evidence you were ever speeding since no ticket was given. Just be nice & state your case.

Yeah. This guy pretty much summed it up.
Don't plead guilty, and just say it was your first time, you should be alright.

i was thinking about doing it via mail

from http//www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=305358

[quote974896a0f7="4Play2k"] Ok first let me start out by being a little bit of a jerk and say it pisses me off to see people pass by me driving illegally in the car pool lane and I generally figure they get what they deserve when they finally get caught.

Having said that, and since your a fellow S2k owner and I know you wont be a dumb ass and do it again, I will share the following advise.

1. Mail a CVC 40519(b) Written Not Guilty Plea along with your bail back to the court postmarked at least 5 days prior to your court date. If you want to do traffic school if your found guilty remember to state that in your plea and include the additional traffic school fee of $31 back to the court. You can use the same envelope you get enclosed in your court citation reminder that will be mailed to you. Make sure you send it certified return receipt.

2. In a few weeks you will receive a Trial By Written Declaration form---TR205 from the courts. Fill out the form and try and come up with a defense. Even if you just state "I'm not guilty" you stand a 30% chance of winning. The citing officer will have to submit a written report by a certain date. Unlike when an officer has to appear in court he will not be reimbursed for his time to write this report and statisticly 30% of the time they do not bother to submit their report. Remember to include in your TR205 defense info to ask the judge if he does not rule in your favor that you would like to keep your driving record clean by being assigned to traffic school (unless you don't want to do traffic school). Include that you qualify for traffic school and you have already paid your fee.

In a month or so you will hear back. Easy as that. No trips to the courthouse, no appearing in court. If you have additional questions feel free to PM me and for god sake next time put the top down, turn up the tunes and just chill in the regular lane. [/quote974896a0f7]

that sounds good.

If youve already had a few tickets and got pulled over at 101 I'd expect a hefty fine plus points on your license at best. Expect your insurance rates to rise as well. I think you drive a sports car as well. Dont speed its not worth it when your paying off your insurance bill.

People need to slow down and be safe drivers. When I was younger around 18-20 I got tickets, speed tickets, tint tickets, accident tickets etc...I almost lost my license and insurance was almost impossible to find since no one wants you ... I have now learned to be a safe driver and havn't had a ticket in a while liknock on woodli

I'm 19 and have never gotten a ticket. The only time i've been pulled over was when I was 16 on my way to get my license, and that was only because there was a crack on my window haha.

MUCH better to fess up, be responsible, and tell your parents now. Now or later, you're going to have to deal with it, but they will respect you more if you don't wait.

The thing is, it's mine to deal with anyway. I'm on my own insurance, car is under my name, I buy my own gas, etc. etc. So the responsibility is mine either way. I'm not obligated to tell them since it was my ticket.
