Has anybody else listened to their CDs yet? I am still trying to figure out which I like better. I think it will be close for sales, and I have found multiple songs on their CDs I like better than Kanye's Strong and 50's Ayo Technology.
And please don't bother posting stupid comments like "Both suck" because I really don't care.

Kanye FTW, 50's album is trash, excluding a couple of songs. I met Kanye this past wednsday at an album signing, he was cool. Yea he might act stupid sometimes, but his music is really g.o.o.d. I also saw him perform at the jimmy kimmel show which was an awesome show and had great seats. Check it out.

This little contest between Kanye and "Fitty" is a bunch of BS. They're just doing it to get more attention and to boost their sales. The loser won't retire. Anyway, I don't listen to either but from what I heard I like Kanye more. Of course Kanye's little fits can be kind of annoying.
However, I can kind of see why he would be pissed at the VMA's. Kanye has talent, but they throw in Brittany instead? MTV knew that Brittany has lost it but using her would be better for the ratings. I'd be pissed off too if I were Kanye. As for his little uproar at that English music award thing, I think that was kind of uncalled for but it was also amusing.

50 knew he was gonna lose because alot of people HATE him, I think Friday or Saturday, a BET (Black Entertainment Television) protest took place in from the company that owns BET.
50 gets blamed for ruining kids and so forth, not to mention he tried to go at Oprah and failed miserably... His negative image and the pressure from a surprisingly growing "corporate black America" has 50 taking alot of heat for "what's wrong with African Americans "
Then throw in Bill Cobsy, Obama, the Rev and so forth....
He knew he was out the door, that's why he made that song "smile" which from 50 is a pretty good song...

if you seen more of his interviews you could see his ego from him fighting with Cam'Ron on the radio to him claiming Lil Wayne copied him and he made up mix tapes.
I've met Kanye. We did the VMA campaign which he was part of w/ Rhianna, Fall Out Boy, and Chris Brown. And I meant personality wise, not the stupid crap he says about people and constantly pulling the race card.

Definitely Kanye for the win.
Unlike many people, I tend to listen to rappers who actually make sense. That's why I mostly listen to underground rap. I don't go for beats. Sure good beats are a plus, but lyrics are what really matter to me. Although neither one of them are exactly lyrical masterminds, Kanye is WAY better in my book. 50, to me, is a whole bunch of nonsense. His songs suck now. His first album was an EXCELLENT album, and his lyrics were actually kind of good, but now it's a whole bunch of garbage. I stopped listening to him after The Massacre came out. Kanye on the other hand, can rhyme decently and make sick beats (even though the best beats from Graduation are from DJ Toomp). Kanye is also unique. He's not a poseur to me, who is he trying to pose as? He has his own style. People pose off of him. My favorite album from Yay was Late Registration. And his best song from this album to me is "Big Brother" (his tribute to Jay-Z). BTW, I Get Money is one of the most Annoying and Overrated songs I ever heard. Has a horrible beat to it and not exactly clever lyrics.
Have you ever walked in the shadow of a giant
Not only a client the presidito
Hola ovito
The game getting foul so here's a free throw
I was always on the other side of the peep hole
Then I dropped jesus walks now I'm on a steep hole
And we know
New jack city gotta keep my brother
But to be number 1 I'm a beat my brother
- from Big Brother
^^ now those are some good lyrics.

wow this may be the first and only time I ever agree with you.
Ive heard Chamillionaires' first four tracks and they are goood. I like how he can mix current events into his rhymes.
50's album is ok. Its much better then the massacre. he actually uses his flow and makes an ok album. 50 probably has the best delivery when he's motivated. He can change style to any song. I'll still listen to his power of the dollar album anyday. This new album however is lacking and it couldve been better.
Kanye--- all ego aside I'm still a big fan of Kanye's first album. track after track was good and he had a lot of artists to back him up(Jayz, Common, Talib....). This album just doesnt appeal to me the same way. Plus throw in the fact he complains about not getting respect.
Message to kanye - No matter if you get your money right... the music industry will always play to the ratings. Thats why they are in the business. Also about awards Kanye.... I think more people enjoy not giving you the award now even if you deserve it since they probably just find it funny if you blow up and start getting egotistical. I know I would.. That shit is funny to me. I wouldnt give Kanye any awards ever.

Commericial rap is ignorant, it's only good for the clubs and parties. Don't try and lyrically analyze them, it's pointless.
Listen to Lupe, he has a major message and is the only one doing it big while sticking to the poetry of hip-hop.
Listen to something smart, provocative, and creative. There are thousands of artists out there that are actually artists and know how to speak to the listener in an intimate environment. You just have to look underneath the bullshit.

Kanye West's "Graduation" (Def Jam) easily leads the star-studded class of Sept. 11 releases, posting The Billboard 200's largest sales total in more than two years. Nielsen SoundScan will show West's album moved 957,000 during its first six days when the tracking service refreshes its charts tomorrow morning (Sept. 19).
Also pumping album volume are 50 Cent's "Curtis" (G-Unit/Interscope), which will lock down the No. 2 slot with 691,000 sold. Kenny Chesney's "Just Who I Am Poets & Pirates" (BNA/Sony BMG Nashville) will bow at No. 3 with 387,000 copies.
The total for West's "Graduation" is the largest by any album since 50 Cent's "The Massacre" opened with 1.1 million copies in March 2005. West's own August 2005 album, "Late Registration," was the last album to surpass 800,000 copies when it began with 860,000.
While West beats 50 Cent in the celebrated clash between rappers, the real winners are music merchants. With the "High School Musical 2" soundtrack at No. 4 selling 133,000 copies, the top four titles alone account for 2.2 million units, more than all titles combined on last week's entire Billboard 200.
West's new album ranks 15th among all sales weeks since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking in 1991. The double punch provided by "Graduation" and "Curtis" also marks just the second time in that era that two albums have bowed in the same week with totals surpassing 600,000 copies.
The last such occasion was in September 1991, when Guns N' Roses' "Use Your Illusion II" led The Billboard 200 with 770,000 copies in the same week that the band's companion album "Use Your Illusion I" bowed at No. 2 with 685,000, a pair of numbers now beaten by West and 50's totals.
"Graduation" also rings up the largest week yet by a digital album download, starting with 133,000, beating the prior record of 102,000, set earlier this year by Maroon 5's "It Won't Be Soon Before Long."
50 Cent and Chesney will occupy the same ranks on Top Digital Albums as they do on The Billboard 200, the former with 58,000 downloads and Chesney's with 36,000. Nielsen SoundScan has been tracking digital sales since midway through 2003.
Chesney's overall total of 387,000 copies marks the largest sales week for a country album since the May 2006 arrival of Dixie Chicks' "Taking the Long Way," which opened at 526,000 copies.

First off, I hate Brother Ali, he has no substance to his writings...
And I'll agree with you that not ALL commercial rap is shit, but most of it is, Common is a huge exeception....there just is nothing that is meaningful behind the bragging and ramblings. I'm not saying that I don't like commercial rap, but it is nothing special and I'm not going to give it any credibility as such.
Next, Lupe makes sense 100% of the time and is 1000x better than Jay-Z or Kanye. Just because YOU don't understand him, doesn't mean he doesn't make sense, there is incredible depth to his poetry and you have to look behind what he is saying on the surface to get it. He is pouring his heart out on almost every record and I respect him for that. Give me any song or set of lyrics that you don't understand and I'll break it down for you. He is true to himself and is a genius. Every song on his album had layers and layers of a massive journalistic effort, self-exploration, and might I add a hint self-realization. I could go on for a looong time, but I'm going to leave it at that, I don't see how anyone could deny Lupe his respect.
Finally, Sage Francis is the epitome of lyrical wisdom and poetical substance. "Makeshift Patriot" is one of the smartest records I've ever heard...ever. Don't even mention Nas or Jay-Z with his name because they are completely different rappers and while I liek both of them, they have too much bullshit in between and it's not a good understanding of what life really is.

classic albums are still going to be rare. All you need is a name in today's game to sell records. Just be a big name like Kanye or 50 cent and put out 1 or 2 hit records on your album and have the rest of the album suck. Just pay the DJs yo play your 2 hits and people will buy your album. You could even get other big name artists like Justin Timberlake and put him on your album to boost your sales.
these two albums will only increase the amount of bs other rappers will put out. You dont need a classic album to sell records. Just 1 or 2 hits will do it when you have the marketing hype that exists today.

Jay-Z is faaaar better than Lupe. I'm sorry, Lupe is so overrated it's not even funny. He took daydreamin, which could've been a great song, and turned it into this
As I spy from behind my giant robot's eyes
I keep him happy 'cause I might fall out if he cries
Scared of heights so I might pass out if he flies
Keep him on autopilot 'cause I can't drive
I'm sorry, but no one cares about giant robot's eyes and stars alignment, and 90 degree angles. That's boring, and if he actually made sense, then I might listen to him.
Just some rappers I like that are not commercial
- Joe Budden (jeez...Mood Muzik 2 might have been the greatest mixtape I've ever heard)
- Saigon (might be a typical mixtape rapper, but puts out amazing stuff)
- Royce Da 5'9 - I just love his flow and of course lyrics.
- Devin the Dude - his verse on Hi-Tek's album was way too good. Also his verse on that Chamillionaire song was greatness too. Plus that song with Wayne and Bun B.
Well, those are just some. But not Lupe.

Just so you guys know...(not sure if it was already mentioned in this topic)...50 already has another album DONE. "Before I Self Destruct" was supposed to be 50's 2007 album....but he released Curtis instead. He'll have to release one more (not including "Before I Self Destruct") to fulfill his contract with Interscope, I believe.

[quote65b4d82a07="schizerbone"]Jay-Z is faaaar better than Lupe.
But not Lupe.[/quote65b4d82a07]
Subjective topics like this will never subside, so I think I'll just explain why I think Lupe is one of the highest quality lyricists today, along with Sage and Joe Budden (I agree with Mood Muzik 2 btw)
Daydream was never meant to be taken literally, practically all of his songs are ENTIRELY metaphoric, which is one of the characteristics that make him great. Daydream was exactly that, just a daydream. A not-so-serious adventure. The "robot" was his project apartment and he is just stretching and working out his imagination. It's almost a training session for his imagination. Another characteristic that makes him incredible is his [b65b4d82a07]IMMENSE [/b65b4d82a07]imagination not many rappers have that anymore.
[quote65b4d82a07]I'm sittin in my room as I'm lookin out the face
Somethin to write about
I still got some damage from fightin the whitehouse, just a daydream[/quote65b4d82a07]
It's not a serious song at all and he makes it even tighter when he says he still has damage from the White House....I mean what other rapper could imagine a project building as a robot, take it for a cruise through the projects of Chicago, and depict a fight scene between the White House "robot" and his struggling people?
The second verse is depicting a music video set in today's "rap standards" in an attempt to show everyone the phoniness of modern rap artists and the stupid of what is "cool"
[quote65b4d82a07]Now come on everybody, let's make cocaine cool
We need a few more half naked women up in the pool
And hold this MAC-10 that's all covered in jewels
And can you please put your titties closer to the 22s?
And where's the champagne? We need champagne
Now look as hard as you can with this blunt in your hand
And now hold up your chain slow motion through the flames
Now cue the smoke machines and the simulated rain[/quote65b4d82a07]
Then he goes on to say
[quote65b4d82a07]But not too loud 'cause the baby's sleepin
I wonder if it knows what the world is keepin
Up both sleeves while he lay there dreamin[/quote65b4d82a07]
Enticing one to think about the innocence of a baby in a corrupt and hateful world....the irony.
That's enough for one post, but I'll be back to point out what I think of Jay-Z and I'll compare him to Lupe's poetic skill
