I want to get my girlfriend a blowfish as a gift but she's at another college, so I was thinking of ordering it by mail.

Anyone have any experience with this sort of thing and/or have any suggestions?

I have a blowfish that my parents gave me when I was a kid. They brought it back from one of their vacations or something. Hopefully they'll package it very carefully because they're really fragile. By the way, that's quite an odd thing to send to your girlfriend.

Won't it die?

It's already dead.

No.

Blowfish (as well as Hootie) are known for their immortality.

I know there are some companies that send fish by mail, but unfortunately I don't know which ones are any good, or anything other than that one fact. I was hoping someone else knew something about it, heh.

No, she'll go for it.

I dont understand you want to send her a dead fish? And by blowfish do you mean a puffer fish? If you are serious about ordering her fish I can help you with that. Many online sellers can overnight fish anywhere you want.

I want to buy her a [i8cdd5d558d]live[/i8cdd5d558d] fish, and yes, by blowfish I mean puffer fish.

She's been wanting one for months but could never find any locally, and never thought to look online.

So yeah, that's what I want to get her. But I don't know what reputable sellers are out there, or what other things to buy with the fish (what size tank do they need? etc). I've already checked google and I was surprised how little information I could find.

this really depends if you are going to go for a freshwater puffer or a saltwater puffer fish. FW or SW puffer fish are large and dirty and require alot of care. There is a FW dwarf puffer which is really tiny that may work for you. It really depends on how much money you are trying to spend. I have 2 reef tanks so I can get you started on a SW setup but as far as fresh water Petsmart usually has FW dwarf puffer fish in stock and it wouldnt be worth it to ship something like that. If you use google talk I can tell you more on there.

I was kind of thinking that in the beginning of the thread but...

I guess he just has a girlfriend that likes puffer fish. shrug

Fresh or salt water?

You may not find much information searching for blowfish, they are more commonly called puffers.

One thing to consider with online fish sales is they are overnighted, so you absoulutely MUST be awaiting their delivery and relocate them as soon as they arrive.

great suggestion, a dwarf puffer would be a great intro to the puffer world, they are very very tiny and only require 3-5 gallons per fish. Like all puffers they are extremely intelligent and will learn who their owners are and even do tricks and beg for food.

You could always custom order one and let the site owners take care of the buying aspect =P

Dwarf puffers sound pretty cool. I think she just wants a fish that can do something cool like blow up when it gets scared (not that she will scare it intentionally). So any puffer fish that is low maintenance and preferably not too expensive (this includes the cost of a tank) is perfect.

But since she and I are in different states, I would need to buy it online to have it shipped to her dorm. Anyone have any suggestions on good websites regarding that sort of thing?

That has puffers.

I owned puffers for about two years and never saw one puffed up. Puffers generally do not puff up unless EXTREMELY distressed. Distressed to the point that they may die. Do not buy one expecting it to puff up all the time. They are like I said extremely intelligent have great personalities.
