I love the city , tons of partyin\

just lots of crime...

ilanbg

18-08-2007 15:36:44

That's crazy. You're lucky none of those bullets made their way through the walls into your apartment.

Partying and crime, who would have thought that they would go together so well?

Well ilanbg I assume he only had to shoot once or twice to kill her, and I doubt (though I am not expert) a bullet can travel through a skull, brain, back out the skull and have enough force to go through 2 layers of drywall and whatever else is between the walls.

Oh boy, you're quite wrong. Depends on a number of factors, including the bullet type, weight, and load. Bullet ballistics are a funny thing and can be quite unpredictable, but a round can easily pass through a couple of people, 3 or 4 walls, and keep on going if all the stars are aligned properly. Over penetration and injury to bystanders is the significant risk of any indoor gunfight. That's why there is such a market for frangible rounds like Glaser Safety Slugs and MagSafe's. Indoor walls might as well be tissue paper, especially for ball ammo. Even JHP's can plug up with material, basically becoming hardballs and over-penetrating.

Not that this asshole cared, as he's obviously a murderer, but anybody intending to keep a firearm for home defense must absolutely understand where a round can go when you fire it -- and not just what you're aiming at. I cringe at people who are untrained in firearms usage and ballistics yet have guns in their homes for self-defense. Imagine the horror of shooting a perp and having the round end up going through your kid's room, or the neighbor's apartment...

Wow - glad to hear you are ok !
About gunfire travel- here is a story - when I was young we owned a 3 flat and we were the main level. Renters below us fired a gun- went through their ceiling - through our apartment and through the upstairs renters bed and into attic - . No one got hurt- unbelieveable- The next day both the upper and lower renters moved out!

Pretty scary though I was only 9.
