having unexpected children is better?

Good luck to you nick_e, you should be able to find the pill over the counter at many local pharmacies. Its kind of expensive but do it this one time, and remember to be more cautious in the future. Let us know how this goes.

PS Dont use the morning after pill as an alternative to condoms!

Crazy thought here - but why doesn't your girlfriend get on the birth control pill? Safer than a condum but not fool proof either. You do have to remember to take it.
You BOTH need to be responsible. Good luck to you both.

MAP is an abortion pill. It has the same effect on a woman's body as a medical abortion. Serious stuff. Condom is safer, easier, and better for both of you and your relationship. Nuva Ring is great for general birth control - better than the pill.

My sister was on the pill but still got pregnant...birth control is wack these days.

That arm birth control I've heard of but don't know anyone so keep us updated on how it works.

Lets not let this topic get away and have an "abortion" topic.

All the morning after pill is ..is a huge dose of birth control.

Planned parenthood will hook you up, i don't believe it's free but it's pretty cheap pill ...

But it will mess the womens cycle up.

skepticalcynic

06-08-2007 08:37:25

Norplant, which is the small tubes implanted into the woman's arm, works well but the biggest side effect is weight gain.

I wasn't trying to make this into an abortion topic. But "birth control" methods such as the morning after pill and Depoprovera, for example, work by souring the uterine wall so fertilized eggs cannot survive. A woman should know these things before making a decision. That's all I wanted to point out.

Also - any long-term birth control method must be discontinued 18 to 24 months before pregnancy or there is a very high risk of serious birth defects. This is also something to consider for those who do eventually want children.

My recommendation is still for Nuva Ring - it is effective only when it is inserted, stays comfortably in place for 3 weeks, has almost no side effects, and is proven 99% effective when used correctly. And you can get a prescription for it from any health department or Planned Parenthood and without insurance the cost is $48 per month.

Good Luck nick in whatever you and your girlfriend decide )

TryinToGetPaid

06-08-2007 08:41:52

It is not small tubes - it is one solid thing, looks like a elongated pill. It is a new medicine on the market.

And she has no weight gain, she actually has lost 20 pounds, but that is from diet and exercise to lost her baby fat.

manOFice

06-08-2007 09:09:52

Birth control in general causes weight gain.

Help![/quoteaf9916f56f]although everyone's trying to get you to freak out (with pretty good reason), I thought I'd mention that everyone's body is different and there is no way to predict how she'll react. for a lot of women, there are little or no side effects at all.

also calling the MAP tantamount to abortion is pretty intense, i mean you don't even know if you're actually pregnant when you take the MAP. even in ideal conditions for conception the odds are not fantastic. the numbers say that nick_e's friend is probably not pregnant. i think pregnancy is a threshold issue when discussing abortion.

JOSHBOX

Agreeing with admin here, calling the MAP an abortion pill is a pretty big stretch. The MAP prevents the egg from attaching to the uterus, the same thing other birth controls do. Conception is not when the sperm joins the egg, its when the fertilized egg attaches to the wall of the uterus. Sometimes this does not happen even without BC.

skepticalcynic

06-08-2007 11:31:53

I didn't mean to cause problems - I just was trying to be helpful. I'm sorry if I ended up being controversial.

Admin is right - everyone's body is different. But I think it helps to have all available info.

JOSHBOX, I think you're getting into semantics - everyone has different definitions of a lot of things, including that - but I appreciate you adding your viewpoint as it adds clarity to my post.

And thank you manOFice and Admin for appreciating my input )

Of course everyone's body is different, however, the likelihood that she wont feel any pain, is wrong. Her body will go through extreme pain, and thats a fact...the amount of pain depends on how her body takes it. I know a couple of girls who have take the morning after pill.

A condom is 75% effective and the MAP is 91%.

So in essence, the pill is the way to go but it could screw up your girls body and her period a little. Also, its like 45 a pop here, not really worth it.

It's like paying to have sex.

Tried the patch - allergic to the adhesive, Pill made me gain crazy weight, I don't think I could do IUD. I was thinking about Nuva Ring but that kinda freaks me out a bit, lol. But like everyone else said every form of BC (even ECP) can affect a person differently. This can be said with all medications, especially those that alter your hormones.

75%??? i'd say a condom is much more affective, you don't get a girl prego 1/4 times of having sex with a condom... but it is a bigger risk than the pill, but not 75%...

Most definitely... I'd say it's over 99%. I haven't managed to knock my wife up while using a condom. She's been off the pill for over a year now because we want to have kids in the next couple of years.

condoms are better than 90% effective "when used properly" -- i'm assuming that 75% statistic is for all condom use.

Sstaceyrae21

I thought I would jump in a remind all that of course the pill with condom combo is the most effective, but the condom alone will give both protection from the "clap", most all the other nasty luggage that sexual partners carry with them. If you really want no pregnancies ever...

Yeah, but it's not like you get the girl "prego" (!?!) 100% of the time without a condom, so your math is a bit flawed.

Remember that the percentages given take into account the fact that people use things incorrectly. The pill is VERY good if taken correctly, but if you skip pills or take them at different times each day, the effectiveness drops. Similarly with condoms, putting them on wrong or not putting them on at the beginning can lower the effectiveness.

I say if you are with someone that you know you are going to be with for a while, pills are the way to go. Pill + condom is probably the best thing, however. No matter what method of birth control you decide to use, make sure that both you and your partner are willing to deal with the consequences if the BC fails. It's important that you are on the same page about what you would do, because nothing, I mean NOTHING, is 100% effective.

Just to clear a few things up I was looking for the pill on her request I wasn't like take this and eat it now! Also we used a condom. This should be a lesson to you condoms will not nessisarilly protect you it broke and it's not much use if that happens. Yes like watever his name said it doesn't matter if you cum in her or not she can still get pregnant if she isn't protected.

Basically the pill sent her cycle out of wack and made her really hormonal for about a week then she was back to normal and thankfully not pregnant.

yeah no lifesyles I was useing a normal extra lubricaded and that happend just use a freeking normal trojan they have the lowest chance of breaking and you don't ever want to have a break ever. Extra pleasure is totally lost when you feel a condom break and you better hope you feel it break.

Treat her like she's a really hot goddess the key word is goddess you have to worship her, fear her wrath and obey her wishes praise her every aspect and be ready to flee her presents when she gets out the lightning (but only when she wants you to otherwise just take the hits). don't make romantic advances, no physical contact at all unless she makes the move. If she's fealing chearful keep her that way cause when she gets down.. not fun anyway dont try to cheer her up it won't work it will just piss her off let her talk and talk and talk and eventually it will all be a memory and like any tramatic experience if you are there with her through it and don't bring her down it will strengthen your relationship in the end.

But yeah that was hard for sure.
