Apple announces product event.. 8/7

[quote5d2937bcfa]Looks like those rumors about new Macs (specifically, iMacs) on the 7th were true -- we were just invited to an Apple "product presentation for Mac" at Apple Town Hall in Cupertino next week. The event gets started on the morning of Tuesday, August 7th, and while we weren't promised an appearance by El Jobso, Apple was, shockingly enough, very open and clear about the fact that this is going to be a press gathering for Mac products (and Mac products only -- so stash away those iPhone hopes, fears, and rumors until next Wednesday).[/quote5d2937bcfa]

What do you think they will release? I mean like the article says, iMac will be redone obviously. Do you think a 12 inch Macbook Pro would be up there? ? It's obviously going to be something else besides the iMac...

i don't ever see a 12" MBP being made, and i highly doubt a 13" (such as the smallest apple laptops) The Black MB is the 12" Powerbook...

You really think so? What's due for an update though, iPods?
I'm kind of in a dilemma, I'm going to a Mac store about 2 hours away while I'm traveling and I had planned on buying a MBP for a number of uses for the next 2-3 years. I'm scared if I do buy one then they will release something that will make me regret it. I'm trying to weigh my chances so that's pretty good input, TJ. P

Didn't the MBP's just get an update. I would say the iMac is due.

there is rumoured to be a iPod 6G in the works that has shaved height and a new OS. Supposedly it will still hold the click wheel, and it's also been rumoured that there are multi-coloured prototypes.

That's true, EatChex, plus the iPod's are way past due anyways, ya know? They haven't come out with a new one in a while. If it's a product announcement event and not just an update on their site, it has to be big. I'd say some type of touchscreen instead of clickwheel. I think the iMac's and possible iPod's will sport multiple colors.
I realize MBP's were just updated but Apple is full of surprises... I bought the PPC right before the Intel dropped so I have nightmares about this. lol

I don't think a 12" MBP would come around, because why would they do that when the MB is 13.3"? I think they might release or announce an update to the regular macbooks. Dunno about anything else... Just speculating about macbooks.

I'm hoping for a new ipod. My 30gb video broke awhile back i've trying to hold back the urge of buying a new one untill the 6G comes out but I don't know how much longer I can hold out.
Hopfully it wont be over $500 thats all I have set aside for a new ipod right now.

There's gonna be a new OS in October and the whole MB line might be revamped. Dunno if you're willing to wait that long though.

Aren't the ipods going to be released in September at the bigger show like last year?
This meeting is probably just about mac as they say "product presentation for Mac."

I'm pretty sure it will be iPod's too. Here's another article from Engadget with a very good point
[quotec74e0afc2b]While everyone's busy trying to figure out which particular shade of brushed metal Apple's new iMacs are going to show up in, a few major online retailers have quietly trimmed 5.5G iPod prices. Apple, who usually keeps a pretty tight rein on its product prices throughout various retail channels, hasn't matched the cuts on the Apple Store, but you can currently score a 30GB or 80GB iPod (with video) for about $20 off at Amazon, Best Buy, Circuit City and J&R online stores. Notable exceptions include Target's online store, and Wal-mart, which doesn't sell iPods online. It's anyone's guess as to what actually sparked these price drops. It could be a way for traditional retailers to compete with Apple's aggressive back to school promotions, an attempt by Apple to clear away excess stock in preparation for a brand new iPod, or perhaps just a good old-fashioned price cut. Perhaps we'll know more on August 7th?[/quotec74e0afc2b]

Probably new iPod. Some fanboy posted the new patents the other day on engadget. According to the drawings it sort of resembles the new iphone except without a lot of the features.

Well, like my article says in this and another one on AppleInsider, Apple made it clear to them that iPhones nor iPods would be receiving updates.. They said this is "Mac only", so evidently it's just computers.

iMac and iLife 08 updates are definite. Not sure bout others. Maybe the ultraportable Mac?

These computers are starting to look like the way computers in movies made ten years ago but set way in the future looked.
It really is exciting to see these technological breakthroughs in our lifetime. Just five years ago the sorts of things we see now seemed out of reach.

prices were bumped slightly, they did originally have a 17" for $999 which is now gone. The other models were $1199 17" 1499 20" and $1999 24" I believe.
