So I finally got around to it and got my motorcycle permit and all I keep hearing now is people telling me, don't start out with a gixxer600 or an r6 and people who went against the advice having no complaints. Now I've been riding dirtbikes for years, race bikes most recently, and I feel like I'd be ready for a sportbike after taking the basic safety courses. I have ridden a street legal dual sport 250 before, and I feel very underwhelmed by its power, but many people reccommend a nija 250 for a first bike. Is there a big pover difference? I think, given my trail, road and racing experience I could handle a gsxr, but I'm sliught perterbed by the whole 250 to 750 pounds thing. Can someone please give me any other advice than your be sorry because it has too much power? Or atleast someone with a similar situation offering advice. Note I'm not a retard who wants to top out my bike on public highways.

I think you could handle a 600, but I would start with a 250. Remember, you can kill yourself on ANY bike, no matter how powerful it is.

I started out with a CBR600RR when I got my license when everyone kept telling me to go with a shitty 250 ninja. Then i ended up getting a custom R6 that walked a lot of 600's. Power difference is kind of a big notice since your comparing a 250 against a 600. If you know how to ride it should not be a problem going with a 600. I actually sold my R6 last week to my boy and is been a year so far since I been riding motorcycles and now I feel like I'm rdy for a 1000. But yea 600's are good when you start out since you don't wanna mess up a 750 or 1000 .

Honestly, I would buy a 250 but, after my experience in riding, the 250 I rode felt like a moped. I just dont know if dual sports are very highly tuned down or I'm just beyond 250s.

D I like.

I too am getting the ninja 250 advice but its kinda damaging to my ego to see every ad saying female owned and actually considering buying it. Was your R6 any different from riding any other bike other than the obvious power difference?

Well the R6 rode better than the CBR600RR, and that was mainly because it had a stabilizer. Since with that when you would go over 100 it would shake a lot on my CBR, but on the R6 it felt so smoooth!!! But yea screw the 250 an go with a 600 8) hey if anything go for a GSXR750 those are mean too.

I got my motorcycle license about a year ago, and I got a 2002 SV650 right away that I've put 2500 miles on. I already had a DRZ400s (street legal dirt bike) that I rode when I had my temps, but to me it was pretty tacky and uncomfortable to ride around. I like my SV650 quite a bit though, but if I had to do it over again I'd get the newer design (2003+) with a fairing (sv650s).

SV's are great beginner bikes though. They have enough power to keep up with most sport bikes, but yet they're very inexpensive on insurance.

^my 2002 SV650^

btw gmario, nice looking R6. What does insurance on something like that run? Also, what are you planning on getting next? )

Its cool, I just happen to be a dick to people I know can take it. Its all laughs. And thats exactly what I did. Got my permit on my birthday, got my license 6 months later.

When i got a quote for the hell of it, my insurance for a r6 would have been about $500 a year. It was near minimum coverage though.
