First off if this is against rules tell me and I will take it down.

I have no ads and am not selling anything so I have nothing to gain.
Wanted to create a type of homepage for users to cut back on the many many bookmarks I'm sure everyone has (I have TONS, too hard to see them all I have to scroll).

So I created this...right now it's just the most popular sites on the net, but I am thinking of adding many versions, more customized to general categories, such as gamers, sports people, community, tech, etc.

Soon will add page for Freebies/ref deals

Here is the very beta, very crappy version. I know images take a sec to load I am fixing that (or trying to). Click on the image to goto that site. Also Google toolbar up there. I am in the process of adding more internal pages with more categories (kind of hard to explain writing it)

i have hundreds in my favs. my top-level favorites folder is four columns long. it's ridiculous.
what would be great is if on your site you could create an account and customize the front page. and it'd show icons like that for each site you add (somehow...).

I need suggestions on what I could do to improve....I would love to make it customizable to every user but I don't have that kind of 'manpower' or knowledge to create the code for that...so what I'm trying to do is create more pages specific to a group, such as Sports people, gamers, etc.

Any ideas?

Great idea! I like the concept, although I have to admit, I don't use bookmarks too often, but when I went to the site, I spotted LOTS of pages that I visit almost everyday.

Good job ) The only thing I could think of to improve is basically what's been said above - a customizable frontpage. I'm sure you could do a search online and find how to code it or whatever you need to do. Good luck to you! D

Two things that kind of bothered me

1) No way to get back to the home page when you click on a category link at the top of the home page.

2) Too much fading on the beginning and end of the category name images.

Other than that, it's a good start.

Very similar to what I have seen at many internet cafes. One thing I gotta say is that you need to improve your color/graphics screen, and two maybe you should look into finding one of those internet cafe scripts, and then just put the sites you have into that.

posse, I have noticed this, and thanks for reminding me of that (the not being able to go back to index.html). I will change the category name images so they are easier to see.

freed, I really had no idea there were sites like mine, so I wasn't trying to copy anybody. What do you mean improve color/graphics screen? I will look into a cafe script, it'd be interesting to see what they are like.

EDIT I google'd and can't find any info on these scripts... ?

have you ever heard of inviteshare.com? They have a great layout that you might be able to take some ideas from. Particularly look at the "all sites" section.

For a game site you could add gamefaqs.com. Prolly the very best message boards, guides, and cheat database you can find.

You need to add Yahoo mail to your email section and take out Charter and Bellsouth. Also, I think just "Hotmail" or "Gmail" is enough. People will know its for email. Same thing with the news links. I don't think you need .comurl==http://=http:///url after the site names (just "Paypal" is sufficient).

You should also add a finance section. Good links would be Yahoo Finance and Google Finance for example.

I also think some the little buttons should be single colored rather than half and half. Some of the colors just look very unusual together like the MSNBC button. Some work well, some don't.

Nice job and idea. You should check your "OnMouseOver" command lines. They seem to work consistently except when the mouse is moved down. Make sure the "OnMouseOut" lines are coded properly.

Bigchan, that is a good idea, I have noticed that some look better than others, so I think I will change them to one color.

I am in the process of totally re-doing the site, it's going to look a lot different and I'd like opinions on which version is better. Not sure when it will be done though.

I think it's too dark. also, is there any way to make it change size/spread out according to resolution? there is alot of black space to the right and below. I'm pretty sure that would apply to most people.

Yeah, I've had a few tell me it's too dark, I can pretty easily change the background so that's no biggy. Also, I have noticed the big empty space. I know there is some to the right, that will be for ads if I use them.

I will look into each link opening a new window.

I think you should just get rid of the whole glowy gimmick all together. I'm using this thing to get easy access and the standard darkness is nothing but a flaw in my opinion. Sure, it looks cool, but who gives a shit. shrug

Also, why no Yahoo mail? I think that's more popular than AOL or Charter, especially considering that those using AOL usually use the browser or something damn near close. And why is Fry's under gaming? Replace that with www.gametrailers.com and I think you're good to go.

I think the glow is an awesome effect, but this site is for convenience if I'm not mistaken and honestly, I think everything would be a lot clearer and more easily accessible without the glow. Great site, I'm just trying to offer some constructive criticism.

Nah your old version was better. People could recognise popular sites by their logo, now they have to try to read what they are via the font you used.

If you make it too hard for people to use, or it takes them longer than a couple of seconds to find what they're looking for then they'll just not use it. They also feel more welcome with lighter and brighter sites.

The preview window is nice but if you get too flash then you'll lose the appeal and functionality of your site. Look at Google. They are what they are today thanks to a blank white page with a search box.

I just did that real quick to show you the color and I took off the faded look...also under the "Reference" section, the buttons are in a new font that is easier to read.

Lighter and brighter is better. You really don't need preview windows. Everyone knows what the Google and Yahoo homepages look like.
