So I went and saw Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix today, and I must say that I think they did a pretty good job on it - though, there are a lot of things that I think could have been improved.

While the Good and the Bads look even, I thought it was a pretty good film. 4/5 stars, or 8/10. )

The Good
- The dementor attack on Harry and Dudley was pretty cool
- Just like everyone says, the fight between Dumbledore and Voldemort is pretty amazing
- Kreacher and Grawp looked pretty cool
- Umbridge was AMAZING. They found the perfect person for her - just how I imagined her.
- Fireworks scene with the Weasleys.
- Flying scene on the broomsticks where Harry gets picked up. )
- The thing with Voldemort in a suit was genious!
- The Occlumency sessions were pretty nice. I liked how they made the last Occlumency scene work even without the Penseive. Although, I would have liked to seen Snape throw Harry down on the ground and chuck potions ingredients at him. P
- Probably one of the best Potter films - though, they could have added a bit more and made it a half hour longer. Why is the longest Potter book the shortest Potter movie?
- Oh and a shout out to Nicolas Hooper - amazing soundtrack - fell in love with the music!

The Bad
- The whole part with the Dursleys after the dementor attack. It seemed so rushed, and it was not at all like how it was in the book. Also, the Dursleys don't even seem very mad at Harry, nor do they scream their heads off (which I enjoyed when reading the book).
- How Sirius died. I honestly thought it was pretty lame how she just came out of no where and killed him. I also didn't like how he fell back into the veil, it was kinda cheap. The only thing that saved that part was Harry's reaction.
- The D.A vs the Death Eaters did not live to how cool it was in the books with people running around everywhere. I thought they could have made the fights/chase a lot more fun, instead of just yelling "Stupefy!" every second behind their backs.
- The way they made the Death Eaters and the Phoenix members like black and white ghosts. Since when can they become black and white smoke?
- No "Weasley is our king". (

I'd love to hear your 'Good' and 'Bad' lists, list them here. P

I haven't seen it personally, but my friend said it was the worst movie in the series; that it sucked.

Yeah it's differently made.
I think it's either you think it's one of the best of the series, or one of the worst.

THe movies have been following the book's "getting darker" cnontinutaiotn and the more if moves away from the childish, kid-orientated film the better it's going to get.

I haven't seen it yet, ubut I'm sure it's going to be great. The book was amazing, probably one of my favourtires, but I can't wait for number 7 in 9 days! D

Totally agree. It was a good movie, but it doesn't compare to the other ones IMO.

I'll have to see it again because we got there a little too close to starting time and the theater was full. We sat in the front row. Almost a waste of money. (

I didn't think it was good at all. The ending was terrible, but I never read the book so I wasn't expecting it to end like that.

I thought the ending was the only decent part of the movie

Harry has lost his innocence and this is where the story starts to turn dark and only gets worse up till the end is probably a good reason why people didn't like it.

I saw it yesterday and some asshole pulled the fire alarm and the whole theater had to evacuate right in the fucking middle of the movie. 40 min later they started it back up but we had to leave early to do prior engagement. They were very apologetic though and gave us a refund and 2 free passes.

I gotta get back to the theater to watch the 2nd half though.

In the book the ending part with the Death Eaters vs the D.A and Order is better (obviously). I wish they would have stuck more to the book in those scenes instead of just following it loosely.

Although I wonder, how did you not like the fight between Dumbledore and Voldemort? Your the first person I met in my life that didn't enjoy it.

I"m watching it again right now, it's still good.

But the wife has read every book numerous times and said the book was WAY better, in fact the books are always way better

i didnt like the movie at all. the acting was pretty lame, except umbridge was spot on. i felt like they took pretty much all of the cool stuff out of the film and kept the bad stuff. any good stuff that was there was ruined somehow or seriously downplayed or underdone so that it was lackluster. the book was leaps and bounds ahead of the film, as everyone says is always the case. i thought the voldemort/dumbledore fight was pretty lame. i mean there's nothing awesome about two guys pointing little sticks at each other while lights shoot out of the end. it just doesnt do anything for me. it's like a fight to the death with sockem boppers; its slightly more deadly than a pillow fight! also, i thought the whole mind control at the end was funny. memories flying by and then random shots of voldemort doing random poses. gimme a break.

15-07-2007 20:02:00

my wife agrees heyitskawika, she said the best acting was umbridge, it was spot on like you said.

I don't know why but I just wasn't into the scene. Usually I'm so deep into movies nobody can even talk to me but I just couldn't get into the scene. Dumbledore was acting out of characteristic and he didn't play a major role. There was no quidditch or magical stuff that would woo me like a baby in the previous movies. Where was the magical candy? Where was Haggard except for one measly part.

It's just my opinion but all my favorites of the previous movies were left out.

Haggard. lol it's Hagrid.

By the way here's a tiny spoiler for the 7th book. It's extremely minor and most people already know (J.K. Rowling confirmed it) but I might as well put it in spoiler.

Obviously I'm afraid to click on the link because if it contains spoilers of the 7th book I'd like to stay away from it with a 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 foot pole.

Clearly, spoilers of the movie don't bother me as I've already seen the movie - hence they don't spoil anything.

Unfortunately this director is also doing book/movie 6 too.

IMHO it was pretty good. we saw it on IMAX which was sweet. the 3d lat 20 minutes made the end even better.

obviously the book was better - when is a movie ever better than a book?

cant wait for book 7

Didn't like it near as much as the last one. They had been getting better and better and this time they took two steps back. Seeing as how the same direction is signed on for the next movie, I hope that he takes some of the criticism and makes the next better.

I just loved Goblet of Fire, the scenes in it all looked so amazing. Its like for this one they didnt have near as many obstacles as they did for the last so I dont quite understand what the problem was. In Goblet of Fire they had all three tasks (the underwater sequence took a ton of work) and had to do justice to Voldemorts return.

And I read in article saying in Entertainment Weekly that Order of the Phoenix had the highest budget, so it makes even less sense. They didnt have very many special effects shots and it was shorter so how did they spend so much more? AND I read in Entertainment Weekly that director David Yates was determined to make this movie the shortest. How in the world does that make sense? Make the longest book the shortest movie? It'd have been okay if it just worked out that way but why was he so determined?

Something else I read that I think is bullshit is that Daniel Radcliffe (Harry) is getting $50 mil for the last two movies, and Rupert Grint (Ron) and Emma Watson (Hermione) only get $5 mil. I understand that neither of them are [i0ce06237aa]Harry Potter[/i0ce06237aa] but they are just as important.
