You think that Bong hits for Jesus is offensive? Why?

After reading the article, doesn't that banner go against the nation's anti-drug policy with schools? I don't see why anyone should be allowed to have a banner about drug use on school property.

Even though it's not offensive to me, I fail to see the necessity in it. If it does offend some, then why do it in public. There's no significance in it and it should be taken down. Free speech is great and there's no law stating it has to be taken down, but if some people don't like it, then why have it. It's not like a radio station or tv channel where you can just not watch it, it's placed somewhere to the point where it's hard not to see or look at.

It seems to me that they are just after some kind of reaction and to piss people off, I really don't see how it's supposed to be in support of the Winter Games

It was taken away that day, it's not something that is or was posted somewhere long term.

Not that I'm a Satanist (I'm not anything) but how is that any different?

Personally I think that anyone who believes that the sign would have actually done any damage is a fool. I can just see the 15-year-olds looking at the sign and thinking "Hm, maybe I SHOULD do drugs after all!". Gimme a break.

People love controversy, and they love a reason to do stuff that causes it. Thus, people will bitch about anything. See the 65-million dollar pants stuff. Don't people have anything more important in their lives? Like getting FREE IPODS?

Some Christians and Jehovah's Witnesses proselytize and try and force their beliefs on others. That offends me, but they do it in public. Churches that post little messages on their signs outside their buildings offend me, but that's in public, and okay.

Like I said before, from the article, it seems like its more a matter of a pro-drug banner being on school property.

Well i'm a Christian in a fairly well known Christian Rock band, and it doesn't offend me. Its just stupidity at its finest -) someone thats trying to get a reaction out of it.. w/e who cares.
I hate it when people use there faith as a crutch or excuse to be offended and make a stink. its pointless and makes you look like a moron.

aviendha47

It doesn't really mean anything. Part of the problem was trying to decide whether it was advocating drug use and whether the schools had the right to suppress it if that was the case. It's not a dig at anyones religious views.

If it was displayed on school grounds, I would have to take the school's side on the matter.

Now if it was off school premises, that would be a different story.

But he was at a school function. That is was off school grounds does not release the student from the supervision of the school. The banner being disruptive to the event justifies it being taken down.

Exactly.

I didn't say that made it ok. shrug Part of what they were figuring out was whether or not it was considered a school function. They didn't know right off whether students were allowed to leave or not. True, they have decided that they were considered to be at a school function.

Please don't take my words so directly, the same goes for both sides. When I say that it offends people in public, then it should be taken down because there is no good reason for it to be up and so it is out of mere disrespect.

I don't care who you are, but there's more than one group living in society, they should both be more respectful to each other....I don't even care that it's at a school function, that to me is irrelevant, if it's there or anywhere public then you should be more thoughtful of others.

I don't see why it would offend anyone, but if it does, then why push it. Let your pride go and move on unless it has some kind of meaning, which I don't see how a banner, stupid joke BTW, has any kind of meaing.
