Gas Station Overcharged me. What do I do?

So I was at a gas station in the city and filled up with $10 in gas. I put this little in just to get me out of the city where gas is 10x cheaper.

I put this on a $500 Visa Giftcard I was given.

Well I check my account balence today and I see a $30 hold from the Lukoil on my card.

I double Checked my reciept and it only shows $10.00. What I do? Will that $30 fall off and I only will be charged $10.

A hold doesn't mean you were overcharged.

When you put the card in, it authorizes to make sure you can pay for your gas.. I'm actually surprised it's only a $30 hold. With gas prices up over $3.00/gal, you'd think it'd be a $50 hold.

Just relax and wait for the hold to go away. It's nothing new or out of the ordinary.

usually they put a 45-50 dollar hold around here.

one shell around here does a 65 dollar hold.

others do the more traditional 1.00 hold.

The gas stations where I live do a $1 hold.. But when I was in Washington, the holds ranged anywhere from $1-20

Most gas stations I know of authorize for $75. I always pay at the pump, and when I fill up the suburban I drive for work the pump stops at $75 every time, and I have to start over if I plan on topping the thing off.

Same here, it's only a dollar. So if you have no money in your account except for a dollar, you can still put in $50 worth of gas, haha

I worked at a gas station...I've seen a hold for 100 bucks before...usually it's just 50 or something.

have fun getting arrested, one time they may let it slide, if you do it multiple times, then you will get busted and you aren't going to play stupid out of that one... people are pretty serious about stealing gas

maybe, I took it to mean try to find the $1 places and charge up a big bill... someone said something about doing that a few months back in a thread shrug

Yeah around here its usually just $1. Since I rarely put in more than $20-$30 I'd get kinda pissed if it where like $75/$100. I usually buy gas at costco though its like .10 cheaper than anywhere else. But some places around here offer a small discount (usually 5 cents per gallon) if you pay with cash.

make sure and bitch about the gas pump that overcharged you and get it fired!

I used to work at a Sunoco in Elysburg PA and they would put a $50 hold and people used to come in all the time and complain that the pump shut off at $50 and they wanted to fill up.
