No, there isn't an option to write your own songs or to play actual notes, its basically the exact same concept of Dance Dance Revolution.
Thats why I sold my guitar and game, but apparently some people like it shrug

True, but it's a lot different. And I believe more fun.
I like guitar hero much more than ddr. Not that I'd buy it for myself but it is fun to play everyonce in a while.
