Two guys punch each other whilst dancing around in baggy bright-coloured shorts and wearing big gloves. Thousands of people pay money to sit near said event whilst millions more watch it on TV.

As soon as one guy sits on his arse for ten seconds or either of them earn more points than the other, the event is over and people go home.

Thats boxing, in UFC you either get knocked out or choked out. There is no 10 second and you are down count, the match is over when your eyes roll back into your head......

It's really all for nothing. Hendo is going to kick Rampage's ass anyways, and I was rooting heavy for Jackson last night.

I was worried about this, especially after seeing all the highlights from their last meeting. Maybe that's why Chuck didn't fight him again for so long. But all my boys are being de-throned! Which is the way it has to be. But it seems like they don't sit long there anymore. How long does everyone think it will take GSP to get back the belt? I am shocked that Serra beat him anyway.

I wouldn't say he dominated. He just hit Chuck on the off button. I was betting on Rampage but I do wish it was a better fight. Bit of a let down. I'm happy with the result though. Really looking to the first title defense with Hendo!

The real let down was Keith Jardine for me....

Twon

28-05-2007 09:51:35

I'm glad Jardine lost. He deserved it for looking past Houston. He thinks he deserves a title shot, but what A fighter has he beaten? Griffin? Griffin is a B+ fighter at best.

Hendo is going to beat Jackson and then Shogun is going to destroy Hendo...

It's going to be an interesting year.

Oh I agree, he hasn't beaten any great fighters - and he definitely got knocked around by Houston. My girlfriend was even more into these fights than UFC 70. She was telling them to knee when they were on the ground and yelling at the TV. She is SUPER excited about the next PPV with Rich Franklin, who is her favorite fighter.

I am ready for Shogun to step into the cage.

My girl is in love with Fedor, so unless we order the crap Bodog PPV's, she's shit out of luck.

Haha... My wife love Rich to. Yes I want to see Shogun rematch Rampage in the cage. I don't think Rampage's head was on right when they last fought. I still think Shogun would win, but with the soccer kicks, stomps, and knees to the head on the ground gone, Rampage should put up a better fight. I would really love to see a slam from Rampage like Randleman did on Emelianenko.

I think I would like to see Ninja in the cage as well. He has had some bad luck recently, but I think he deserves a rematch against Rampage. I think Rampage was lucky he got the decision in their first fight.

Man this is awesome. I didn't think there were knowledgeable fight fans here at FIPG. Anyone who wants to talk MMA, I'm your man. I like to discuss all aspects of it. Anyone here train MMA?

I have been training Muay Thai for a few years now. just started the ground game, wrestling and BJJ about 8 months ago. I LOVE IT!!! I'm hoping to have my first fight this fall. I'm pretty old to be starting, but I don't care. It's great.

im surprised people know who fedor and shogun are. nice to see the two guys that are the best at their respective weight classes get some recognition. i am a bit worried about shogun without the soccer kicks, knees on the ground and stomps.. i really hate zuffa for changing the rules in pride.. thats what made it so great.

Twon

29-05-2007 06:52:20

I think that there has to be a common ground when it comes to the rules. That way everyone starts out on an even playing field. I could do without the stomps and soccer kicks. I like the knees to the head and I like elbows. The main reason I don't like the stomps is someone is going to grab onto the cage, stomp down with all their might, and seriously hurt someone.... see Sims vs Mir part 1. Being able to stomp on a persons face isn't skill. Anyone can do it.

Do u think that guys coming from pride and bodog have a disadvantage in the octagon if they have never trained in one before? Obviously, Rampage didn't have a problem, but he's been to that show before.

29-05-2007 11:20:46

Twon, I had that same gif has my signature for the longest time. That kick was straight NASTY!

And coming from Pride - the only thing really different is them being reset to the middle of the ring and if I remember correctly in Pride you can not elbow to the face.

bballp6699

29-05-2007 14:39:29

Honestly, one other big factor is that Pride didn't check for steroids.

Elbows to the face are awesome! I love the UFC..... if there was ever a real man in the world it's those guys. The beat the hell out of each other and then get up and hug and talk to intelligently about the fight. I love it!
Classy guys!

That's brutal. Thanks for sharing!

Twon

31-05-2007 06:23:44

I think the main reason why the banned the downward elbow is because there is no striking to the top or back of the head or the spine. Although you could do a backwards elbow to the side of the head from site mount, the top and back of the head are the usual places for that kind of strike. Also, it is much more likely to open a big cut than do any real damage that might cause a person to stop fighting. I know also that people have had serious eye injuries from getting the elbow point right in it. Although it's a combat sport, any real mixed martial artist (this excludes wannabe tough guys who are all talk and about injuring people) is there for the competition and doesn't want to do permanent damage to a competitor.
