I moved from NY to NC.

In NY i had blue gradient tint at like 15% I believe which was iillegal and I got like 4 or 5 tickets for it in NY

Now i have a new car with no tint on it and in NC the legal percentage is 35% on all windows.

Now...I'm getting quotes for like 150-200 for the whole car at 35%.

I don't know how dark 35% is...my guess it's not dark at all.

Is it worth spending like 200 bucks to tint my car at 35%??

Does anyone have pictures of a car with 35% tint?

I wanna go legal cuz one guy i talked to said they get many people every day coming to have the tint removed in NC. And in NY ...it was a bitch.

Mirror tint is hot...but my blue gradient tint on my blue/green firebird was hotter ;)

I paid I think $140 for 35% tint in Texas...I think thats the legal limit here. I don't have a picture of it, but it's not really dark. It makes a big difference compared to untinted, but it's not ridiculously dark. At night you can't see in the windows, but during the day you can.

I think it's worth it just because I hate no tint windows...but I have also never has it anything darker then what I have now. So if I have had something else I may not think it's worth it.

A few years ago I had a Pontiac Sunbird and had the just the back window tinted at 35% which is WA state legal limit too and it cost me $45. You had better stick with the legal limit those NC cops will nail you. But Georgia's are worse.

I just got a quote for $159 from the tint shop for all windows all legal

They said the have the measuring device and the will put the darkest film on possible that brings it completly legal. They said our windows have some tint on it so if you have exactly 35% tint put on it will make it illegal because of the standard tint...the guy sounded like he knew what he was doing. I think I might go there. They said the service like 21 deal ships also.

You also have to ask yourself whether a cop is going to ticket you over 40% tint... if the mechanic is using a measuring device, chances are no one will be able to tell the difference, so I wouldn't pay extra just for that.

If your windows are already ~5% tinted, but you can't even tell, then just get the stock 35% tint without bothering to make sure it's accurate. No one will be able to tell the difference, you can always claim negligence if you get caught ("I didn't know my windows were already tinted"), and it will probably cost you less.

Oh I gotcha, but this place that quoted me $159 is one of the cheaper people and they make sure it's legal. It's actually only like 5 bucks more than half the stores I called.

New York is 70%...I have 21% (15% when added to factory tint), and have gotten 3 tickets for it. My license has since been suspended, because I didn't pay any of the tickets...but that's simply because I'm waiting to get a prescription for the tints from my doctor )

That's not negligence...it's ignorance...and is NOT a legal defense. Most cops will still ticket you, especially knowing that the more reputable shops force you to sign a release stating that you are aware your "equipment" (the tint tickets are actually "defective equipment" tickets) is illegal before they'll do the tint job.

Heh in NY, i got illegal tint and got tickets...the guy at the counter said he would right me a receipt saying they took off the tint even though he didn't...when I got a ticket..I asked for the guy that said he would do that...he was fired...lol

I got limo tint on all my windows (4) PLUS the rear wind shield and the shade lighter than limo on my front wind shield with a life time warranty for only $130.

The percentage is the amount of light that is let through the tint. IE 5% tint is really dark (limo tint). You have it mixed up.

Most people go with 20%, it's light enough you can still sorta see through (still illegal), but most cops leave you alone unless your acting like an idiot. I can't speak for all, but window tint is the least of my worries, unless your acting like an ass and you obviously want a ticket for something.

But if you want to stay legit, I'd go with the guy that said he'd test it and then add what you need. He obviously knows what he's doing and wants to take care of you. Most places will do whatever tint you want for cash, no proof they did it (most can get fined for doing illegal tinit) which also means no warranty....

good info, couple of my tickets were cuz of speeding then they also gave me a ticket for tint...probably only got pulled over for "tint specific" twice

meh...stay out of the 'burbs and you'll [generally] stay away from tint tickets...city cops have better shit to do than fuck with people who aren't really endangering anyone (the NYS law basically says that the safety of law enforcement officers is comprimised if they approach a vehicle which they can't see into).

fuck ohio.. 50% in the front, anything in the back... 50 is almost nothing. im pretty sure that it used to be 35, they changed it a couple years ago or else i never really would have looked into it before for 50% tint.

Upstate...Syracuse. Went to school in Rochester, they never bother you at all for tints.
