Our final project in AP this semester is to compile a detailed power point about some event in history, the criterion are pretty broad, I just don't know what to do it on.

I want to pick some event that I can get lots of research on (in order to make a long presentation), but is sort of small in the public eye, one that isn't widely known. Can anyone help me out here?

Do it on the impeachment of Andrew Johnson......It was a pretty big deal, but never covered much in any history class.

my friends and I had to do a video for our AP history project.

We did the Iran Contra Crisis. It was pretty fun. Maybe you should consider doing that. There was enough in our textbook to do it so you should have enough too. maybe consider that?

I have a essay on greek migration to new york in the 60's 70's and 80's using only the New York Times and Census data. It singlehandedly brought my grade up from a C to an A! i'll sell if for a green on Dell.V-Bux.

You could do it on the Suez Crisis, Eisenhower Doctrine, and Lebanon. I find that stuff interesting.

If I were you, I'd do WWI. It's amazing how so many people know so little about the FIRST WORLD WAR. There's plenty of information on it too. Maybe you could talk about a specific part of WWI or something.

you could also do something more recent like 1960. I remember writing a paper on a possible US missle gap crisis, which ultimately led to the tremendous arms race bw the US and USSR. Well mostly from a US concern the US govt was petrofied when the USSr launched sputnik(Russian space aircraft) before Americans had a succesful space launch. US Warhawks pressured officials and convinced the US public that the Soviets were capable of launching ICBMs that would strike at the heart of America. As a result a lot of US money was spent in keeping our missile attack/defense systems far superior to those of the Soviets.

Some have argued, however that our governmental insistence to beat/better the USSR in areas such as military operations/capabilities, defense/attack missile arsenals, and space programs have benefited the nation as a whole.

Others believe that the build up in arms was unnecessary at the times since the US had proven to be technologically superior to the Soviets in areas such as missle capabilities and space programs, regardless of the Soviet launch.

A lot you could talk about as a build up on the Cold War front. Not sure if thats over the scope of your class but it's a interesting topic to discuss.

Talk about the Stasi[=http//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stasi]Stasi. My comparative politics teacher showed us this movie[=http//www.sonyclassics.com/thelivesofothers/]this movie in class today and it was really good (even though it was pirated with crappy subtitles lol). But yeah, the Stasi were secret police in East Germany that were quite interesting. I'm sure no one would know much about that.

You gotta do it on LSD/60's psychedelic revolution. VERY interesting history and it's not talked about in schools. You can talk about how albert hofmann accidentally discovered it, to how the CIA tried to use it as a weapon and mind control drug and how it fueled a counterculture revolution with names like ken kesey and the merry pranksters (the acid test and furthur bus), timothy leary as well as the vast number of musicians that influenced from it. Tons of info out there.. you could make a very interesting project/presentation.

He said it was really broad and he never mentioned any restrictions. I'm just giving suggestions. It's better than not giving any suggestions. ;)

Do the [negative] impact Santa Claus has had on American society.

I have plenty of information and links on this topic and even have a 6 page paper (including works cited) I would be willing to let you use (although it's been turned into turnitin.com, I think). It's an important issue that I'd say 99.9% of people overlook, or don't think about to great length, or don't care about.

You're almost guaranteed an A simply because it's so unique and the teacher will likely know so little about the topic that all the information you introduce will be new and interesting to her.

That's not really an EVENT in history.. that sounds more like a psychology paper to me.

Anrew Jackson and the Trail of Tears. Its a really horrific example of brutal American racism that you don't often hear about.
