some people do have problems in their life and actually, ive gotten my shit together. Ive gone from drinking 5 days a week (pretty hard) to maybe once or twice a week...still trying to get sober. Im not proud of it and its something that has destroyed my relationship with my family and friends.

It takes some serious intervention because alcoholism is a disease that affects our brain, which explains zr-2152 random rants and nonsensical remarks. no sense of poking fun anymore. he's just drunk off his ass and a good ass kicking isn't the answer..

There are many alcoholics in college. You can find them anywhere. Look for the guys that can drink a lot and not be phased because they have a high "alcohol tolerance". They don't realize the amount they are drinking and the ones really screwing themselves over internally. "Being young" is what people use to justify actions they know are wrong.

Okay im not going to get into everything that ive been through in my life but to tell me to grow the F up and and saying that im asking this forum for help means that you are totally missing the poing.

People can laugh at me all they want. I dont care what ppl think of me and I DID NOT START THIS THREAD TO LOOK FOR SYMPATHY OF FOR THE WHOLE FORUM TO SEE. I just wanted ppl to know that iwillpayunow4green was being antagonistic and it really pissed me off.

Im not wanting you to hear that I have an alcohol problem. But if you want to know (and it seems that you like to make assupmtions)..I have ruined my relationship with my parents, attended AA meetings, slacked off hardcore in school, been an outpatient for 5 months, been diagnosed by 3 professionals as me being in the early stages of alcoholism. According to them, i have the signs of an alcoholic but again...like you said..its too early to tell. Beacuse its in my family history (both sides of my family), i have a 99% chance of becoming an alcoholic and totally ruining my life. I am getting it under control and I dont give a damn what you all think about it. I never stated that I was for sure that I'm an alcoholic. I hope to God I am not and again, like you correctly stated, I hope to grow out of it (I do personally feel that I will mature and stop drinking like most college kids do).

Just about everyone in this thread has totally missed the point of it.

Basically it has to do with a chemical imbalance. You can be an alcoholic but not drink. In my case (and no im not making excuses), My fathers parents are both alcoholics and so was my mothers father. A chemical imbalances in the brain (not sure what it is) allows you to release the "feel good" chemicals in your brain (forget what they are called). People who are genetically prone to an addictive personality have a high release of those chemicals.

One test that researchers did for alcoholics and non alcoholics was put a picture of alcohol (beer or vodka or something) in front of both an alcoholic and a non alcoholic. Studies show that a switch flipped on in the brian of alcoholics and that chemical started to be released, without them drinking.

So yeah I hope that lets you understand. I might have to come to the conclusion, hopefully soon, that I just cant control my drinking..i dont know.
