A 19-year-old suburban Detroit resident is on track to graduate from The University of Michigan after just a year of study. Nicole Matisse, of Bloomfield Hills, is to officially graduate in the summer with a bachelor's degree in psychology.

As a student at Lahser High School, Matisse had exhausted the curriculum by her junior year. Between the exams she passed on eight advanced placement courses and the eight classes she took at Oakland Community College, she had amassed enough credits to enter the university last fall as a junior.

"When I got to U-M, I only took 19 credits, and I was bored and craved more credits," she told The Detroit News for a Wednesday story. "So even when I took 27 credits this semester, I felt I could have added even more."

27 credits!!!! What the....

Jeez I will not complain about taking my measley 8 credits a semester.

But she most likely is extremely smart -- one of those who is just a plain genius -- and is still young.

Maybe if I didn't have kids I could take more but I would have it no other way.

Wow this girl is lucky she's all done. If I were her -- I would go for the doctorate.

27 credit credits? Wow, 12-15 is supposedly a good full semester.... Can we say Doogie Howser?

I entered college with 12 also.

I wonder what kind of social life this girl has. Probably none. See my whole thing with college is that im in it more for the social aspect. As sad as that sounds its just that youre going to remember the times that you spent with your friends/girl than the times that you stayed up late studying for an exam or writing a paper.

Social life to me is more important and getting a degree and a job is second on my list (i know that ill get one so why not be social?).

ilanbg

05-05-2007 21:07:27

I'll be entering college with 28 college credits, that should be a nice jump-start.

zr You are definitely going to remember the times you had fun in college if you hate your crappy job because you slacked off.

Anyway, yeah, she probably doesn't have much of a social life.

Seems like she just took credits to graduate fast, I don't see how this could benefit her. She used AP and community college credits. Firstly, AP credits count for essentially nothing but filler credits for registering and graduating. And then she took community college credits, which no offense to those attending, are the same as high school. I don't see how she benefits from this.

I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or are simply disillusioned, but there is a huge difference. Junior College is a joke. High Schoolers take classes there and earn easy A's. You simply show up, learn some material and take tests. Contrary to what many believe, I don't think that college is about memorizing facts and taking tests.

no your wrong they are the same classes "history" "algebra" and so on are high school classes anyway whether you take them at a juco or a university personally i think you are a fool if you pay 3 times for those classes at a university with the cost of going to school now. Also its been showin people that come out of jucos do way better than those there all 4 years.

Your JuCo obviously did a great job in the English department.

I took a class at IPFW, which is a branch of the Indiana and Purdue network, and the class was principles of sociology. The class was a waste of time, I never studied for anything, did the minimal amount of work, and only went to class because attendance was a part of our grade, and I have a 97%

I took four dual credit classes (comp 1, comp 2, macro, govt) at CC after my junior year in high school, graduated at the end of that summer with the district's "recommended plan", went to CC for another year, and transferred. By the time I was [ic9bcb8587a]supposed[/ic9bcb8587a] to enter college, I had racked up 39 credits. Now I have finished my first year at the new college and only have a semester in a half left...if I want to (my Chinese minor is pushing me to have two classes in spring 09).

Now, to those that say CC is easier than "regular" college it's true for the most part. However, it more often than not goes the other direction. I saved a lot of money by opting for the CC route and I do not regret it at all. I went from paying $1500 per semester to $14700 per semester.

Also, transfer students typically have way higher GPA's than students that started out there.

Second, are we sure this isn't a hoax...max number of credits you could take in a semester is 19 (without approval) or 21 (with approval).

Third, I could have graduated early...but elected not to. What's the rush? "You'll never remember class time, but you'll remember the time you wasted hanging out with your friends. So, stay out late. zdub e-Thugs 4 Life...nuff said.

I never provided my IQ score...only the range of "intelligence" to which it was correlated. However, rather than to brag, it was actually intended to show how loosely the term "genius" is thrown around...even by professionals. I believe I'm more intelligent than most, but by no means a genius.
