Boycott the gas pumps on the 15th!

So I got this e-mail the other day from a friend of mine and I found it interesting. I currently pay $2.85 for a gallon of gas and I wanted to see what everyone else pays. I realize that where I am from we pay cheaper prices on most everything, but we also make less. Here is the e-mail I received, tell me what you think.
DON'T PUMP GAS ON MAY 15TH!!
In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in
protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.
On May 15th 2007, all internet users are to not go to a gas
station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in
most places.
There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet
network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill
up.
If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take
$2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil
companies' pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil
industry for at least one day.
If you agree (which I can't see why you wouldn't) resend this to
all of your contact list. With it saying, ''Don't pump gas on May 15th"
I'LL BE PARTICIPATING..HOPE ALL OF YOU SEE THE IMPORTANCE AND DO THE SAME!

No insult to you, but the only people that are hurt by not pumping gas for ONE DAY are the gas station owners, which aren't part of the oil companies. So the oil companies take a hit for one day and then make it up in the next week when people realize they can't get to work/anywhere without filling up. I mean, it's nice to see the effort to be independent of oil, but I don't get the point of this whole thing.

Whenever we head up north, I try to figure out exactly how much gas i'll need to get to the GA state line so I can fill the tank there D 1.85 sounds a little low since it's right at 3.00 for unleaded here in central FL, but it IS usually .50 to .75 cheaper in GA.

GA is one of the cheaper states on gasoline due to our low fuel tax, but if a station here is selling gas for $1.85 then they're losing money. Some stations will do this temporarily or on certain days of the week to attract customers, to "protest" or some other gimmick, but it's not indicative of actual prices.
Gas between Atlanta and where I live in NW GA is running about $2.75-$2.85 a gallon right now. Maybe she meant to type $2.85.

There is only one protest that is going to work - stop using gas. Ride your bike, take a bus, etc. Gas-out days do not work. The only results from one of these is that the lines will be longer on the 16th and you will prove your gullibility. Please don't take part in this.

DH and I have been paying around $2.90/gallon here. However, I haven't filled my car's gas tank in over a month, because we take his car everywhere. )
One advantage that he and I have is that we live about .5 mile from a Target, so even though groceries may cost a little bit extra, we can walk and save money on gas that would be used to drive to WalMart (we don't have many grocery stores in the area). Only time we drive is if we have a LOT of groceries to take back home, otherwise it's all walking. Great for exercise, too.

I'd have to agree, if you drive, you're still going to lineedli gas, so you'll buy it on the 14th or 16th. The only way this would work is if nobody would buy gas for a at least a week and use public transportation.
Gas is 2.98 here and it definately sucks filling up 25 gallons every week on both of my cars. Topeka isn't all that big(120,000), but you can use

Well when I need to fill up -- if the tank is really low -- then I pay just about $3.00.
But my hubby usually has the car and fills it up on his way to work and he pays 1.85 for E85. There is one station on his way to work that said they will never raise the E85 price no matter what the cost of regular is. There's one other station with E85 around here somewhere that keeps it at that price too -- I just have no idea where.
My van doesn't take E85 so I don't drive it much.

If people really wanted to make a statement it would of been "Ride your bike to work or use public transportation Day", which I think in some cases it was but that should of been the whole "statement".
Either way delaying demand is pointless, decreasing demand is "beneficial".
