Anybody have Geico Auto Insuance?

I was looking into switching insurance companies and I was looking into Geico and I found out that "I can save $130 just by switching to Geico," not to mention that my coverage will increase quite a bit.

I was just wondering how their claims service is? Anybody have to deal with it? I'm in an area where I can buy online, but there isn't an office close to me. So I'm not sure what would happen if I needed to file a claim.

Bah, they were expensive for me, I'm with Allstate and only pay 69 dollars a month!!

stueybaby17

25-04-2007 12:12:06

I'm paying $396 per 6 months with State Insurance at the bare minimum. The month thing doesn't work out exactly because I know it cost more per month than to pay 6 months at a time. But with Geico I can get a little better coverate for $267. But if I do go with Geico I'll end up getting coverage that is a lot better than that for around $300.

manOFice

25-04-2007 12:26:23

by quick calculation it looks like i'm paying around $415 per 6 months with all state.

My problem was no one else would really except me because I never had my own insurance before, All state was the only one and it turned out they were pretty decently priced compared to the others I was quoted on.

What did AllState quote you at?

$69 damn im at $250 a month with allstate

stueybaby17

25-04-2007 12:57:19

When I was on my parents insurance as a 51% driver with all state it was only $229 for 6 months. My quote for just me was somewhere around $416.

Damn man fo real, what kind of car you got

stueybaby17

25-04-2007 13:06:07

01 Ford ZX2 with liablity only. With my own insurance it's state minimum, but with my parents it was like 25,000/50,000 for everything.

When I had my eclipse though that was bad. It was like almost $1000 for 6 months and I was only a 49% driver.

If you want to save lots of money .... just have your car more then 150 miles away. That's reduces your insurance by quite a bit. It isn't always possible to do that, though.

Like for me, I'm in Seattle and can offer the proof of that to my insurance company, but my car is in PA. So, since I am more than 150 miles away from my car most of the time, I only pay about $40 a month for full coverage with State Farm, even over the months when I am home.

Just a thought.

Geico is a great company. Especially if you're starting out, as they tend to be cheaper. However for old timers like me with well established histories with their insurer, it isn't always cheaper.

State Farm is cheaper than just about anybody for me, including Geico. And I can even get an "employee discount" with Geico since they're a sibling company with mine (we're both Berkshire Hathaway/Warren Buffet companies). State Farm has always treated me extremely well, so without a major financial incentive I wouldn't leave them, personally. But I don't think you'd be disappointed with Geico.

I decided to switch to Geico. And I was really happy with their customer service when I talked to them. They were very nice and answered all my questions and were very friendly. And I feel like I was getting super ripped off by State Auto because "I just saved $131 by switching to Geico!"

That's $262 per year! And the best part about Geico is that I am getting almost the same coverage I had when I was a 51% driver on my parents insurance and it is only $12 more then what I paid under my parents policy.

Yeah so pulling up an old topic. . . Geico saved me a ton of money on car insurance. It's almost half as much as I was paying with my previous company.

But Geico keeps fucking stuff up and it's pissing me off! And I wasn't even in an accident yet.

There are papers that I have to sign because of the rates I've chosen. And I did all of it online. And then two weeks later I got a package in the mail saying that I had to fill out the paperwork. And I was like I did it. And then I got another package about a week later. So I called and talked to somebody and they put me on hold and looked at my file and said to just disregard the paperwork that I had everything filled out that I needed.

So weeks went by and I get a message on my phone that I didnt' sign my coverage options forms. I call back and after about 2 hours on the phone I finally get the paper work that I need to sign emailed to me. I get it all filled out and sent in. And before I got off the phone I made sure that was EVERYTHING that I needed to send in. And they assured me it was.

After giving it enough time to make it back I check my account online and find out that I owed more money on my premium. And I found out my discount was deleted. Yeah, my good student discount was deleted because I didn't send in the paperwork for it. And asked if I sent it in if the charges would go away and was told that it would be prorated from March 5th, which is a pretty long time. Well i wasn't having that because I specifically called more than once to ask if i had EVERYTHING that I had to send in, and was assured I was. And nobody ever told me I needed to send it in. I was a little suprised that I didn't have to, but I figured they were just gonna take my word for it, or they would have asked. So she wasn't gonna do anything about the charges, so I asked to talk to a supervisor. After that hassle he decided that I had enough evidence (the phone call logs) that he would be able to credit the account, if i emailed him a my grades. So i got a screen shot of my grades and emailed it, and then he said to send a hardcopy of my transcript also. So i got that all taken care of.

And there is also a 4.10 charge because they screwed up the paperwork for my coverage options forms, which i didn't feel like dealing with. And for $4.10 it just wasn't worth it to me. So I didn't.

Now after having enough time for them to get the transcript, I get another phone call from geico. I still have coverage options forms that i need to send in apparently.

I mean how can they keep fucking stuff up so badly. It's really pissing me off. And now that I have to call back I think I'm definatly gonna fucking flip about how horrrible they have been for me. I mean seriously! Even a caveman can do it and it takes 15 min or less??!!! I havn't even been in an accident and I've been on the phone with geico for over 4 hours!!!!

We've been with Progressive for several years on 3 cars, they gave us the lowest quote for all of our coverages.

When my husband got hit head on and totaled our XTerra, they were on the scene within 30 minutes and we had a decision by the end of the day. The check came in 3 days.

THANK GOD we had gap insurance on it. That paid what was left on the loan and we went and got a new XTerra. Funny thing is it had more options, was brand spankin' new and was over $5000 cheaper ;)

I'm at $800 every six months for 2 new cars, full collision coverage, $1000 deductibles, GAP insurance and 100K liability coverage at Progressive.

That's with my wife averaging one totaled car every 3 years and me with two recent speeding tickets.

I totally agree with you right now. I'll tell you what, I've had insurance before with two other companies and Geico is by far the hardest of the three to understand. I mean signing up was easy, but the policy information and paperwork is pretty confusing. And I mean I thought I did it right, but wanted to make sure so I called and was even told by a customer service rep that everything was fine. But I didn't have everything I needed filled out. And this happened 3 times!!

I dont' think a caveman would even come close to being able to do it.

I've used Geico for a few years now. It's always been the cheapest for me, about $600/6months. The claims service is screwed up though. I've had to file 2 claims so far and one time they wanted to inspect my vehicle, second time they didn't mention anything. They had the claims done within a month but every time I called to find out the status I had to leave messages and no one EVER got back to me. So the claims are closed now but I have no idea what their decision was. My insurance hasn't gone up so I can't complain too much. It'd be nice to have SOME communication though.

A MONTH!!! Holy shit! Are you serious? That seems like a long long time. I mean I couldn't deal w/o a car for that long. I hope it doesn't take that long if the car isn't drivable!

I had one accident (that was reported) while I was on my parents policy and AllState was super super quick. I wrecked on a thursday at around 400 PM called it in by 600PM. Came home from school on friday and there was a check in the mail box with the claim report (saying it was filed at 1153am)!

aviendha47

14-06-2007 19:15:58

Thankfully the truck was drivable, it wasn't a serious accident either time but yeah, it took forever for them to set an appointment to look at the damage and close the claim.

Typically, Geico is not cheaper for those with well-established insurance relationships. Especially if you carry additional policies like life, homeowners, or rental. They're generally cheaper and easier to get for new(er) drivers or those who've never had insurance of their own before.

I've been with State Farm now for over 13 years. Every so often I try these "guaranteed low price" quotes and they're either more expensive, or less coverage, or they have a track record of poor customer service.

State Farm has been AWESOME for me. It would take a SERIOUS amount of savings -- not a few bucks or even tens of bucks -- for me to consider leaving them. Every claim I've ever had, whether my fault or someone else's, they've treated me like royalty. SF can be pricey for new policies, and they're notorious for having high acceptance standards (turning new applicants down for arguably insignificant reasons or if they've not had insurance before), but if you can get in with them and hang in with a decent record, IMO they can't be beat. I've known several people that left them and came back, or that converted to them from other big names (like Allstate) and couldn't be happier.

Of course this could vary by region and state -- some carriers have better records in some places than others. But where I live, I consider State Farm the best insurance you can get.

I had allstate with my parents and that was great, but for me by myself they wouldnt' even cover me. Even though my name has been on my parents policy as a 51% driver since I got my license.

I got my own policy with State Insurance and they cost me a little over $400 for 6 months with 25,000/50,000 and 25,000 property. No un/underinsured.

Switched to Geico and saved a ton. I mean I still cant' pass this up as a poor college kid. I mean I hate the shit I deal with calling them all the time about stuff they screw up. But I mean I am paying $270.50 for 6 months with 25,000/50,000 and 25,000 property and 25,000/50,000 for un/underinsured.

Edit I looked into state farm also. And I went down and talked to a lady and she took all my info and told me she'd look it up and call me back. But she never did. So I figured it was a no, or the price was really really high or something.
