So, I was looking for another healthy snack because, I've been doing great at losing weight, but wanted another healthy snack to eat. So, in doing some research, I got the idea about beef jerky.

So, I started googling around, and I got this site http//www.bigjohnsbeefjerky.com/

So, I looked up the nutritional info, and it's pretty good for you, except for the high sodium content
http//www.bigjohnsbeefjerky.com/images/nutFactsHsFh.gif[" alt=""/imgb195459e5a]

So, I ordered some wednesday night, and got it today, and I must say, this stuff is amazing. Anyone who, like me, has only tatsted that fake oberto and CVS/ 7-11 type jerky, has got to try some of this real stuff. I honestly can't believe how good this stuff is.

Anyone else have any good types, flavors, or sites for jerky?

Yeah beef jerky is delicious but kinda expensive so I don't buy it that often. That Big Johns jerky looks tasty though.

Big John's is great...check out the forums @ http//www.slickdeals.net for promotions (they're not uncommon).

I love beef jerky...but it always gets stuck in my teeth...so I haven't had any in a while (

watch out/ dont freak out

when you retain shitloads of water due to the increased sodium instake when eating beef jerky alot.

haha, word, I'm all ready for it though, I drink tons of water

Kidd

well then your gonna bloat and be thirsty.

it all goes away anyways

Same thing goes with diet cola products - they are packed full of sodium and you retain water a lot easier.

Their cashews are amazing as well. I damn right ordered in bulk when I found out they did online orders.

I'm a huge jerky fan, I eat tons of the stuff.

Jack Link's is pretty decent for commercial stuff, but the absolute best jerky is homemade. There's a little BBQ joint a couple miles from my house, it's the only BBQ restaurant I'd eat at. The guy's food was amazing, and for years he made his own jerky and sold it. It cost $25/lb and I'd buy a pound every so often. The stuff literally made your mouth water when you opened the bag, and when it was fresh it would almost melt in your mouth, with almost a papery texture -- not rubbery like most commercial jerky. Unfortunately he retired and sold the place about a year ago, so I've been having to settle for Jack Links. I like the Peppered and KC Masterpiece flavors. The A1 Steak Sauce is flavor is liNASTYli so be warned...

I've made my own...recipes are readily available, and a decent dehydrator isn't too expensive. I've made both beef and venison jerky myself, but I've had homemade ostrich, caribou, etc. jerky too )

No joke, their jerky and trailmix are awesome. I stop by there every time I head to Vegas also. Thanks for putting up the website because I always forget to look them up when I get back.

What is the pricing like in-store?

Subtotal $20.00 USD
Shipping & Handling $7.00 USD
Total $27.00 USD

is it worth $27 for 3, 4 oz. bags?

Wolfeman

21-04-2007 18:03:17

The pricing online is the same as it is in the store. 3 bags for $20. I always get 3 bags (Terriyaki, Sweet & Spicy, and Hot) and a bag of banana chips...

Yarly. I like how it says "Buy Direct!".

Is that alien jerky place on the interstate between CA and Las Vegas? I wouldn't be able to stop by since I come from the other direction ( I'll definitely order online though, since my dad LOOOVES jerky and will never buy that fake store-bought shit. NM has some decent home-made jerky stands as well wink

Not to mention increased blood pressure. When you get a stroke, don't blame the jerky. ;)

Personally, I avoid all jerky due to nitrates/nitrites. I get headaches you wouldn't believe...

Shame. I saw that happen with the cola-bottled Nestea. When they made it "Cool" they actually just added tons of sodium. I could taste the difference immediately. Ugh.

Yes, they are. I ordered some a few weeks ago. They're marked as "Jalapeno flavored", but they don't have a picture. Look closely.

I ordered some Big Johns Beef Jerky and I got it quick. It was a nice surprise when I got home from work today. I got 3 1/2 pound bags (Original, Teriyaki, and fiery Hot). It's good, but it's not as good as I thought it would be. I think I like the stuff you buy at the store just as much. It's been a little while since I've had it so I may be wrong.

Is beef jerky bad for you? Whats the deal about retaining water?

KnightTrader

25-04-2007 20:46:23

I love Jerky. A lot. I've been eating that cheap Costco Jerky for a while.... The really hard ones, Bleh. I needz some premium jerky... Tempted to break the bank and order some online.

Tonight we went to Sam's Club and I grabbed a 3-pack of Jack Link's Peppered. I'm munching on it right now, and it's some of the freshest store-bought jerky I've had -- and I eat this stuff all the time. Must have just come off the truck or something...

mmmm jerky...some guy in my husband's office used to occasionally bring in bags of homemade jerky and my hubby would bring it home to me...that stuff was great...haven't gotten any in ages, though. Maybe I'll place an order at one of the sites listed in this thread...reading through your posts is making me crave the stuff!

Salt. Well, at least in the really processed ones you find at the local supermarket. Nitrates and nitrites too, which are a trigger of headaches and a potential cancer risk.

Beef jerky is the best. I have a pantry full of every flavor, but BBQ is probably my favorite.

I need to set up a beef jerky store in my house so I can get a bunch of jerky at wholesale price.
