Up to 32 now. I've been watching a live stream from a local station there for over an hour. They keep looping a video from a student's phone where you can clearly hear gunshots. It's very chilling.

Thank goodness my friend who works on campus is safe and was far away from the shootings. He's already been sent home.

Marcus Vick returning for some revenge? Wow so glad I'm not in college anymore.

ANyone have any motives?

What I know is the gunman killed one person in a dorm and then two hours later, on the other side of the campus, opened on an engineering classroom.

My first assumption is that he killed the person in the dorm on some revnge shit. After that was done he knew he was screwed and decided to go Columbine on his school.

Just a guess but Im assuming he wasnt excelling in his classes at Vtech.

A few of my friends go there. As far as I know, none were injured. My buddy was in the building next to the targeted one. Kind of scary to think if he went to the next building, it could have been him. This killer chained the doors shut so people couldn't get out. It's sad stuff...only an hour or two away from me. Blacksburg is such a small town, and this is the last thing people there expected. There were SWAT teams with shotguns running by kids, so surreal.

This kind of thing reminds me of the scene from Ali G show where Borat asks the guy at the gun club if he can buy anti tank guns for self defense, and the guys says "yes in Texas". The sad thing is this kind of thing happens then the media and public goes crazy for a few days then it is forgotten about and the NRA still stands.

nobody2000

16-04-2007 16:34:12

let's see if he got the gun illegally or not.

Everyone's so quick to shit on the NRA. 99.9% of gun owners don't kill people. Cars kill more people than guns (ok I have NOTHING to back that up, but it sounds good).

If someone wants to kill people, they'll find a way to do it. He could build a bomb or whatever. Don't blame guns, which are perfectly legit sporting tools.

You really think stricter gun control is going to do something? CCW (concealed carry) is illegal at VT, but don't you think that if one person near the shooter was armed 30+ lives could have been saved? You know those in organized crime are actually pushing for stricter gun control, it just makes their job easier. Most criminals don't even buy their guns legally anyways.

Look at the UK for example. After they enacted their gun bans, crime soared. Same with Australia.

quit with the gun control BS already. if there was just one person on that floor authorized and rigourously trained to carry a firearm and protect that floor, 30 people would not have been shot and killed because they were defenseless. and no, im not saying every prof should have a freakin gun in their desk. but just one person could have possibly saved countless people because they evened the playing field. it pisses me off when people see this kind of thing and instantly point the finger at guns as being the problem.. when in reality, a gun is the only thing that could have saved those people.

Hey all. If you read this post, please just take a moment of silence for those who lost their lives in this unbelievable tragedy. I live 45 min for VT and go to all home football games. I went to VT for 2 years, my dad graduated from VT, my grandparents live 5 min walking distance to VT. This incedent has hit too close to home. Having kinda a hard time dealing with it. They said that he bought one of the guns from a pawn shop 10 min from me in Roanoke. Dont understand the why's but feel the sorrow and grief from it. For something to be of monumental history and happened in a place where i know so many people, it's just hard to wrap my brain around. Thankfully, no one I know was injured but my heart goes out to all the families and friends who did. I went to the convention they had today and the emotion in the place was like nothing i have experienced. Blacksburg is an amazing community who's strength and compassion for others will def pull thru this stonger than before. I will leave with the chant that ended the convention today.....

quit with the gun control BS already. if there was just one person on that floor authorized and rigourously trained to carry a firearm and protect that floor, 30 people would not have been shot and killed because they were defenseless. and no, im not saying every prof should have a freakin gun in their desk. but just one person could have possibly saved countless people because they evened the playing field. it pisses me off when people see this kind of thing and instantly point the finger at guns as being the problem.. when in reality, a gun is the only thing that could have saved those people.

"'Orange[/color0e7775a7ca] and Maroon [/color0e7775a7ca]Effect' was born several years ago as an invitation for Virginia[/color0e7775a7ca] Tech [/color0e7775a7ca]fans to wear orange and maroon to Virginia [/color0e7775a7ca]Tech[/color0e7775a7ca] athletic events. Transcript of Nikki Giovanni's Convocation address

We are Virginia Tech.

We are sad today, and we will be sad for quite a while. We are not moving on, we are embracing our mourning.

We are Virginia Tech.

We are strong enough to stand tall tearlessly, we are brave enough to bend to cry, and we are sad enough to know that we must laugh again.

We are Virginia Tech.

We do not understand this tragedy. We know we did nothing to deserve it, but neither does a child in Africa dying of AIDS, neither do the invisible children walking the night away to avoid being captured by the rogue army, neither does the baby elephant watching his community being devastated for ivory, neither does the Mexican child looking for fresh water, neither does the Appalachian infant killed in the middle of the night in his crib in the home his father built with his own hands being run over by a boulder because the land was destabilized. No one deserves a tragedy.

We are Virginia Tech.

The Hokie Nation embraces our own and reaches out with open heart and hands to those who offer their hearts and minds. We are strong, and brave, and innocent, and unafraid. We are better than we think and not quite what we want to be. We are alive to the imaginations and the possibilities. We will continue to invent the future through our blood and tears and through all our sadness.

We are the Hokies.

We will prevail.

We will prevail.

We will prevail.

We are Virginia Tech.

He was obviously disturbed. We can all say he was mental and we feel ill by this but in his mind I guess he thought what he was doing was a sane action. Remember the insane never question their sanity, they dont even know they are insane. The school really should have done something about locking down the campus IMO. I went to Towson University which was right next to Shepard Pratt Mental Insitution. Whenever an inpatient would get out the school transit would go on lockdown and police would swarm the campus. With this said that video made me sick, I feel terrible for all the parents, professors and students that have to watch that.

The reason they didn't lock down campus is because they had pulled over and were questioning the person they thought was responsible for the dorm shooting. I dont care, a shooting on campus is a shooting, whether they thought that had someone they believed is a moot point. They still should have cancelled classes because there was a deceased person in a dorm room after an obvious homicide and they did not have a guarantee who the shooter was and/or if he/she was still around.

bullshit. i would be fuming if a college pulled that on me and my classmates. do they honestly think one day of education is so fucking important that they cant close the school when a person that shot 2 people dead is on the loose in a small college town? sometimes i wonder if these so-called "educated minds" in charge of schools arent a bit nuts in the head themselves.
if there was a lockdown, wouldnt he have looked suspicious walking to the post office or where ever he was as the school was in lockdown. hell, he probably wouldnt have even of been able to. if kids knew what was up, they could have been more suspicious and aware of everything around them.
