From most of the reviews I read, it seems like a good deal...

Anyone think there will be a noticable difference with the Elite running it through HDMI?

Thanks

imho the only difference with hdmi vs component cables will occur with hdmi 1.3.
i think that the 360 is not the way to go for an hd dvd player either way u do it.
get a ps3

I've tried Blu Ray and HD DVD hands on well before I bought my first player and I have to say in my own personal opinion, that the overall quality HD DVD offers surpasses the Blu Ray. You'll especially love the IME (In Movie Experience) feature that HD DVD offers... Blu Ray made last minute efforts to mimic IME with their "Blu Wizard" but it pales in comparison.

Not knocking down Blu Ray, it does have some good titles... But I would prefer those titles on HD DVD over Blu Ray.

I've had my Xbox HD DVD player for a while now and I love it. Haven't had any issues with it at all. If you have an Elite, you can watch your HD DVDs in full 1080p. You can also watch your movies in full 1080p via VGA (given that your TV set supports 1080p over VGA).

Also, your standard DVD movies will be upconverted to the maximum resolution your TV set supports via VGA or HDMI.

One more thing... If you buy any HD DVD player from Toshiba, you get 5 free HD DVD movies... Their least expensive player right now is the HD-A2 (which you can get for $302 on Amazon.com [MSRP is $399 elsewhere]), so you might want to look into that as well.

I got one a couple of months ago because my friend kept sending me screenshots from his and so it tempted me to get one. I like it and it looks good but it isn't as big of a shock as going from regular cable to HD cable was for me. I expected to be as surprised as that when I first tried out a HD-DVD on my TV. It is only like $200 and it came with King Kong so it really isn't that bad either way.

Rent or buy Good Fellas on HD DVD and watch your jaw drop.

I own Good Fellas in regular DVD but I will rent that as soon as I get my 360 fixed and shipped back to me. I got the ring of death unfortunately.

If you're going to go HD-DVD you should get the HD-A2 with the 5 free HD-DVD deal that h3x mentioned. You won't be paying that much more for it considering the rebates, you'll get HDMI, and you don't have to depend on the 360 which might break on you.

I have the HD-dvd player for the 360, and I could not be happier. It was a cheap HD-dvd solution and using VGA is no problem. Get netflix and you will be all set.
