I've never been a tea drink, until recently. I've been drinking a LOT of Sobe green tea, which enticed me to buy green tea bags. I bought Bigelow's 100% Organic Green Tea. Umm...Helloo? Why didn't anyone tell me? It's so good. I have anywhere from 2-5 cups of hot green tea everyday. Which, in turn, has made me want to try other kinds of hot tea. I went to the grocery store, only to find myself looking vacant at a big Wall O' Tea for 5 minutes. Where do I begin when I know nothing about tea? Anyone have any suggestions? I want to try all different kinds! Someone, please..point me in the right direction. D

tea is very good for you, you will have a much better immune system than to drinking coffee everyday

I LOVE tea. Hot [i9c478a0d51]and[/i9c478a0d51] iced. (well, next to Dr Pepper)

If you're looking for something "new", there's white tea, which (IIRC) supposedly has even more anti-oxidants than green tea.

It's difficult being a tea drinker though. Lots of dental appointments, and, of course, discrimination by coffee shops offering free refills.

"Oh, not tea. You have to pay for each teabag."

Bastards...

try strong black tea. For a good blend available all over the place, try Tazo brand called 'Awake'.

Also, try earl grey and english breakfast tea.

Tazo Awake IS good...mmm. Actually all the Tazos I've tried are nice, especially Passion and Wild Sweet Orange. One of my favourite teas is Stash Holiday Chai (tastes like gingerbread). It's hard to find, although the Stash Chai Sampler includes three bags of it. Lately I've been going to tea specialty shops and getting lots of loose teas. There's so much to choose from!

but back to the tea subject...green tea is supposed to be a great weight loss trick.

im in love with arizona green tea, with honey. Its so good and only 99 cents for that HUGE can.

Tholek

30-03-2007 09:51:00

Oh yeah, but some bottlers don't add the "99 cents" to the print, so store can rack up the price. ;)

It tastes much better than the bottle or jug too. I can't stand those.

Tazo tea IS the best to drink hot, followed closely by Twinings (my favs are english breakfast tea and irish breakfast tea). Now that it's starting to get warmer (I live in Florida), I've been brewing Lipton green tea and chilling it. I've got a 20 oz container that I fill up with ice, 1 packet of Splenda and 1/2 cup of frozen blueberries and freshly brewed green tea. It's awesome and lasts me 1/2 the day. TONS of antioxidants and really refreshing...tastes just like the arizona green tea w/blueberry flavoring, but A LOT cheaper since I make it myself. D

All your suggestions sound awesome. My sister had me try a "Sleepytime" tea from Celestial Seasonings..it was pretty good, but definitely didn't help me sleep at all. I love hemp products, where can I get that Hemp tea? And yes. Iced tea [ia2dcf70d93]so[/ia2dcf70d93] rocks. Yum.

i don't like milk or sugar

a drip of honey is perfect though. Sugar makes tea very dry tasting to me...I'm not a honey fan but when it comes to tea it's a must.

I never understood the cream/milk thing in tea.

Tea > Coffee.

If I had to drink either plain, tea would be it. It's just more palatable. I only add a bit of Splenda or Sweet & Low to tea, but I have to have my coffee really light to drink it.

I add nothing to my tea otherwise you don't get the full medicinal benefit from the drink.

I've had serious coffee drinkers try to convert me by pouring all sorts of "gourmet" and "high-end" black liquids down my throat, even some from mountains of a certain color, but I've withstood the assault. I'm still a tea man through and through. ;)

I agree with those who go for tazo tea.

Their hot teas are awewsome and comforting in a way.. and their iced teas (in bottles) are quite delectable...

???

That's like saying you shouldn't eat food, only multivitamins, otherwise you won't get the full medicinal benefit from the food.

Tea > Coffee. Coffee makes my stomach hurt and gives me the jitters.

As far as milk/sugar in tea goes, only in Chai for me.

Oooh ooh just thought of another great tea - Lipton's Asian White. It's a blend of white and green teas with a touch of peach. Very nice.

Coffee gives me a tummy ache too most of the time. Most likely because I can't drink it without adding way more sugar than I rightfully should. Tea. Mmm. [i93869e28c7]Peach[/i93869e28c7] tea. Triple Mmm.

Maybe that hemp tea in particular, I don't know, but I don't think he meant tea in general. I don't happen to agree, myself. While I can drink tea straight, IMO sweetening takes nothing away from its positive effects.

JennyWren

01-04-2007 14:46:15

Um, ok, but in that case it would be equally valid to say "I don't add sugar to my nothing because then I don't get the medicinal benefits of my nothing".

Not that tea doesn't have medicinal benefits (it does), just that you aren't TAKING them AWAY by adding milk or sugar, you are ADDING other stuff.

I meant tea. Green tea has numerous benefits if you drink it daily... I've actually never tried hemp tea (I've had cannabis tea.. but that's completely different).

It's not that it takes the positive effects from the tea you're drinking, it's exactly as Jams44 said.. It does cheapen the medicinal quality a little (given that you're only putting in a tiny bit of milk and maybe a teaspoon or two of sugar). But if you're drinking strictly for taste, then by all means sweeten your drink.

Not [if405147d30]strictly[/if405147d30], no.

One needs some amount of ingested sugars per day, and I see no cheapening of the medicinal quality to add it here, rather than have that candy bar, or something similar. )

Personally, I do use artificial sweeteners, but only Splenda, which is simply an altered non-metabolizable form of sugar (considered fairly safe), and Saccharin (which has been re-evaluated as being much safer that once thought). I do drink it plain as well too, though.
