Good luck. What age do you have to be in California to get your license?

You can get your permit at 15 1/2 and your license at 16.

I get my GDL (Graduated Driver's License) in less than a month. April 26 FTW. D Then I can get rid of my provisional driver's license. D

Good Luck! I'm sure you'll do fine and get your license.

In Michigan, you can get a permit at 14 and 9 months. My 13 year old son is counting the days! My two oldest sons ( 20 and 18 ) both passed easily and I'm sure you will, too.

In Indiana you get your permit at 15 and license at 16, a month, and a day. Don't ask.

What's a GDL TFOAF?

I assume that's probably something like in PA. You get a JDL Junior Driver License and you can only drive with as many people as seatbelts and everybody has to wear a seatbelt and you can't drive after 11. And then when you are 18 (17.5 if you've had no moving violations or accidents) it changes to a Drivers License and you can driver after 11 and whatnot.

I had to park an extended cab van. This thing was huge! I got in no problems and was like "yeah, I'm set. I'm gonna pass now." And then the guy was like ok now lets get out of here and get onto the highway. And I backed up and was like about to put it in drive and I was like "Woah! Turn Signal" So I put that on, let my foot off the brake and the van moved about half an inch and touched the cone!!! I was super pissed. A little dumb ass mistake cuz I was nervous and forgot to put it in drive! oops

So I took it again the next week and I passed.

Remember when driving used to be FUN? Now it takes a really hot car before it's anything more than a chore.

J4320

28-03-2007 15:16:03

Driving is easy. I drove with my parents right when I turned 15 and once I was 16 I immediately got my own car. You're a little behind there Chex. ;)

EatChex89

28-03-2007 15:16:57

I passed!

It was a breeze, I got 4 errors (out of 15 allowable).. I thought it was going to be a lot longer than it was.

So now I have a slip of paper that says that I have a license, I just need my license to come in the mail.

What sucks, is that I can't drive now since I'm not insured since I don't have a car. But whatever.

GA licenses are made on the spot and they're not paper. They're thick, solid plastic cards that are inkjet/dye printed with your photo, electronic signature capture, and 3D barcode that contains your life story, then overlaid with a security film. You sign an electronic pad, they take your digital photo, and the machine spits out the finished license in about 10 seconds. Pretty slick.

fawker

28-03-2007 16:12:12

I live in kansas and you are allowed to get your learners permit at 14 which means you can drive with your parents (or maybe just an adult) and by yourself to and from school/work. At 15 its(permit) to and from school/work by yourself and other than that you need an adult present. I may have confused a few things but yeah I was 14 when drivers ed started and ended but something to do with my birthday allowed me to take the class.

tylerc

28-03-2007 16:12:49

Yeah, they aren't here either, maybe Indiana is more technologically advanced than California, to the point where they can MAKE cards right there while you wait.

JordanE

28-03-2007 16:13:58

In Nevada you can get your instruction permit at 15 & 1/2 and your licenses at 16. But you must hold a permit for atleast 6 months. Or if your over 18 you can skip bolth the permit and drivers ed. The nice thing is you get a full licenses right away. There are no restrictions. Back when I got my licenses you could get it at 15 & 3/4 you didn't need a permit for 6 months.

I was just poking fun at NJ, one of my roommates is from there and his license really is just a laminated piece of cardstock. Its pretty cool that they can do all that right on the spot though, NY's licenses are so ridiculous that there's just no way they can do that.

Exactly the same for NV. I was glad to I would probably loose it if it where just paper.

Ours also have a banner that says "Under 18 untill XX-XX-XXXX" and then once you turn 18 it says "Under 21 untill XX-XX-XXXX". We also have the vertical and horizontal system. With all of that, minors can still get alcahole and cigarettes very easily.

When I got my license in FL, it was given to me on the spot; however, the girl before got a letter. When she asked, the lady told her only U.S. citizens receive their driver's license, IDs, etc on the spot.

Same here in PA they are pretty advanced. They are like scannable and whatnot and have a pretty good hologram on them. Very very hard to fake. They take a little more than 10 sec to print, that or the service just sucks. I usually end up waiting about 5 min after the picture is taken before they give it to me.

tinman5

28-03-2007 19:08:25

so maybe NY is the only state where you have to wait for your license to come in the mail P

They're made of some kind of soft plastic, I can literally bend my license all the way in half without it breaking, and if you cup into a c shape you can feel a scale like texture on the front of it. It also has the entire rainbow of colors on the front, leaving no white area at all. It doesn't have a hologram, but under a blacklight you can see the New York state seal.
