I was just curious if anyone else deals with this on a chronic basis, and what they may use to treat it.

I use this nifty invention called ChapStick.

stueybaby17

25-03-2007 21:32:38

I do. I suck it up and take the pain, discomfort and cracking and bleeding. I hate it but I dont' like the way the chap stick and stuff feels.

sometimes my gf makes me use carmex and that works, but it has a smell that I dont' like AND I have to deal with the stuff on my lips.

I've used tons and it just doesn't do enough. Even the medicated version.

I hope you're kidding. There's no comparison between bleeding and having to just put some chapstick on. I haven't tried Carmex, but I've heard it was recommended for cold sores. I just have chapping, and I hate having to use those little balm jars.

I tried Blistex in a tube. I'm not crazy about the consistency of stuff like that since it has to be more liquid than a stick, and seems to come off more easily. (In my experience anyhow) Not saying I won't give it a shot if the ingredients are really better though.

I've spoken to a few dermatologists over the years, and all say never to use medicated stuff. Can't remember why though. They're so popular.

I exaggerate, but when it gets close to that point I will use something. But before then no. I hate the way it feels on my lips, I'm kinda weird with stuff like that. Lotion between my fingers, chapstick type stuff on my lips, I kinda freak out sometimes and think that I can't breathe. I'm starting to get ok with chapstick, but I still don't like it. I still hate lotion though.

[b6696d6696d]Kiss your girl and some of her lip gloss will rub off on you[/b6696d6696d] wink

lol, but honestly, I haven't found any miracle chapsticks yet. I heard that [b6696d6696d]Carmex puts tiny shards of glass[/b6696d6696d] (or used to) in their tubes so that when it goes on your lips, it cuts up your skin a little bit. This makes your lips feel really good and smooth but is bad for you. Plus, they do it so you need to put more on, all the time, causing you to spend more money sooner. Not sure if its true but the person telling the story sounded very serious about it. (edit TTGP said its probably not true, but at least it was a big enough rumor to get press lol)

Yeah, [b6696d6696d]don't use the balm jars![/b6696d6696d] They make your fingers all greasy... ewww. And if you think hard, you'll realize how unsanitary it is. Your fingers touch so many dirty surfaces all day and then you use those same fingers, dip into a jar of sticky stuff, then coat your lips. And then when you lick your lips its almost like licking that subway pole you held on the way to work.

I like [b6696d6696d]Burt's Bees products[/b6696d6696d] in general but haven't tried the chap stick. I'm sure you don't mind spending the 3 dollars to try it out but here is a link someone posted on our forum[=http//www.anything4free.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=86926]our forum, free sample for filling out a survey or something. Don't know if it works, but worth a shot. Unless you're too embarassed to try lip shimmer... lol. ;D[=http//www.burtsbees.free-lip-shimmer.com/]lol. ;D

If all else fails, come over here and I'll wet your lips.

Dr. Dan's Cortibalm and Aquaphor are pretty strong as far as healing chapped lips. My problem is biting my lips so that is what makes them worse and keeps them from healing properly.

TryinToGetPaid

26-03-2007 07:25:28

But one of Carmex's top-three executives, Paul Woelbing, whose 99-year-old grandfather founded the company, said the rumors are completely unsubstantiated.

"It is beyond my comprehension that there are actually people out there naive enough to actually believe that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration would either allow a manufacturer to grind up fiber glass and put it in a product for human consumption or after our being in business for more than 63 years not catch us if we actually did do this," Woelbing said.

I've been addicted to chapsticks for about 17 years or so. I'm screwed if I leave the house without chapstick in my pocket. I'm pretty sure that it's the sort of thing that if you use if for a while, your body adjusts and you can't do without.

I always have bit of my lips peeling off, it's gross, but I chew on my lips too...

I use the Burt's Bees stuff (but my BF doesn't like it...) and Avon "Dew Kiss", which is quite mild and doesn't taste/smell weird.

Definitely Burts Bees! I too have been addicted to chapstick for at least 15 years, and Burts seems to be the one that I find myself using less and less because it does such a great job. The plain brand that is, not the shimmer kind.

Carmex works wonders.. just keep it at the exact perfect temperature or it will melt and be nasty when you try and get it on your lips and then you've got it all in your mouth and it makes you want to puke.. or if it gets too cold it freezes very easy so that it's unuseable..

I find this hard when I am constantly going places and it's too hot in my jeans, so I have to constantly cool it down...

Just peel all the skin off your lips (start with your teeth, and once you get enought loose skin you can use your fingernails to take it off in larger pieces). Once you have all the skin off your lips, you have brand new, unchapped lips. Now, dress goth and tell all your friends that the blood all over your mouth is because you really are a vampire and you just had lunch!!

Or, you can use chapstick.

Burts Bee's for real. I know its been said, but no one has explained why. It is all natural, using stuff like Bee's Wax, Peppermint Oil, etc, so that it doesnt feel all disgusting and waxy all over your lips.

The peppermint oil will make your lips tingle when you put it on, but thats whats supposed to happen.

And it works really well. I never liked chapstick either because of how it felt on my lips but you'll barely notice Burts Bees is there.

I've had dry, chapped, sometimes bleeding lips all my life and have tried almost everything out there. Right now between my car, purse and home I have about 8 or 9 tubes of various lip moisturizers. The best stuff, however, is either plain petroleum jelly or Aquaphor (just the least expensive stuff you can find at your local grocery store or drug store). I use Aquaphor not just for my lips, but when my hands are so dry they crack or on the heels of my feet in the winter, on any sort of dry skin rash or minor cuts that are healing. It doesn't come in a tube, I don't think, so you'd have to use your finger to apply it, but it's worth it. Living in Denver where it's just unbelievably dry year round, I go through the stuff like it's water. I highly recommend having some in your medicine cabinet.

Tholek

02-05-2007 08:40:37

Not tried Aquaphor. I'll look at that. Petroleum jelly is out though. Too messy. Hopefully the dermatologist will have some new solution.

These have all been recommended....but I've used carmex (tube), chap stick, blistex (tube), burt's bees (stick), and aveeno (stick).

Aveeno is by far my favorite, but they go for like $4 a stick.
