Who here smokes cigars?

What are you favorite types of cigars? I personally am new to cigar-smoking and have tried Phillies Mexican Slims, the Swisher Sweets and a bunch of other cigars of which I don't know the name because I was just given them..

It's relaxing and smells good, I enjoy it a lot.. Anyone have any good advice for getting cigars?? I'm not talking the $10/cigar (at least not yet), but something more affordable that tastes good and lasts...

Thoughts?

I smoke cigars every once in a while, though I prefer to stay away from brands sold in convience stores, as cigars are much better when made using quality tobacco and kept in a humidor as they should be. You can go to a tobacco store and get a nice Romeo y Julieta for $3-5. Since your new start with light colored cigars as they are milder, and take a light wiff of it before you purchase it, to make sure the experience will be pleasant.

Yeah, I just went in to our local Tinderbox (which, by the way, is a sweet store.. they are very very helpful regardless of how much you know) and bought a few $3-5 cigars and smoked them with a few buddies.. I've also got a buddy who has some connections in Mexico and will be getting some Cubans (legit) soon and he said I could have a couple free (don't ask me how)..

So, I'm excited D

I usually smoke Black & Mild. Normally I get the vanilla, cherry, or apple flavors. Mostly just the vanilla.

You probably shouldn't go by me though. I actually inhale the cigar. Lol.. what's the point of smoking one if you don't get the nicotine? And don't say 'the flavor'. I get that when I inhale.

Lol and you dont say anything in the weed threads.

My list
1) anytype of Dutch Master cigar to roll with
2) garcia Vega - usually like the green tubed ones
3) Game cigars - roll well but uber harsh
4) White Owls - old school but gets the job done and burns slowly
5) Philies - detest em as there basically a newb blunt.

of course these are just cigars I crack open to put in the special ingredients. If you're looking for a more smokable cigar Id start off with the black and milds since you're just a beginner. They're trendy and are very easy to smoke. Once you graduate you can \travel to canada and smoke all the world famous Cuban cigars.

I'll pass, but thanks.

I'm looking for a list of cigars that I can try from our local cigar shop, not the ones you pickup at 7/11 (I only like the 711 quickies for fun, but when I want to relax and have a nice smoke in the hot tub with some friends, I don't want to be 'that guy' smoking Swisher Sweets, if you know what I mean).

Anyway, what are some good $3-5 cigars that are common and good?

You know you don't inhale cigars right? If you inhale a good cigar, you will get sick.

And about the whole 'it's bad for your health thing'. Well so is drinking. So is eating McDonalds. Almost all my friends smoke cigarettes, and I don't. If I want to relax and enjoy a good cigar every once in a while, I will.

Right, but I was just saying "if you were to inhale."

I agree completely, I don't think cigars have much of a risk associated with them.. as long as you don't smoke them everyday.

Not be a dick, but you're wrong. (I'm adamantly against smoking for personal reasons)

[quote2b8161ea1a]One common misconception about cigars is that they are not harmful because most users do not inhale them.

"Cigar smoking is considered by many consumers to be a harmless alternative to cigarette smoking," Pitofsky says. "According to the Surgeon General and scientific evidence to the contrary, they are dead wrong. These settlements will help end that misperception and ensure that consumers receive clear and prominent warnings about the risk of indulging in cigars."[/quote2b8161ea1a]

that says youre 7.8 times more likely to get cancer from cigars than a person who has never smoked [i2b8161ea1a][b2b8161ea1a]if you smoke 3 cigars a day..[/b2b8161ea1a][/i2b8161ea1a]

and what's the chance of getting lung cancer for someone who has never smoked before..? maybe 1/100,000 x 7.8 = [i2b8161ea1a][b2b8161ea1a][u2b8161ea1a]7.8/100,000 people who smoke 3 cigars a day die from lung cancer?[/u2b8161ea1a][/b2b8161ea1a][/i2b8161ea1a]

those results are misleading to say the least..[/quote2b8161ea1a]
a) Try reading all the words, in the order they're written.

[quote2b8161ea1a]That risk increased [b2b8161ea1a]more [/b2b8161ea1a]among men who smoked three or more cigars a day (to 7.8 times the risk of men who have never smoked) and men who inhale their cigar smoke (who have 11.3 times the risk of lung cancer death of nonsmokers).[/quote2b8161ea1a]...that is to say, the risk of cancer is already present, but increases to 7.8 times the risk of those who have never smoked if someone smokes 3 cigars a day.

[quote2b8161ea1a]Even men who said they did not inhale their cigar smoke had lung cancer death rates more than three times those of men who had never smoked.[/quote2b8161ea1a]
hmm, what could that mean, is that misleading at all?

b) further, just because you've succeeded in pissing me off, here's some more info for you to try to refute
[quote2b8161ea1a][b2b8161ea1a]Do Cigars Cause Cancer?[/size2b8161ea1a][/b2b8161ea1a]
Cigar smoking increases your risk of death from several cancers, including cancer of the lung, oral cavity (lip, tongue, mouth, throat), esophagus (the tube connecting the mouth to the stomach), and larynx (voice box). [b2b8161ea1a]Studies have shown that male cigar smokers are 7 to 10 times more likely to die from oral and laryngeal cancers than nonsmokers.[/b2b8161ea1a] In addition, when saliva containing cigar smoke chemicals is swallowed, the esophagus is exposed to carcinogens. The death rate from esophageal cancer is several times higher in male cigar smokers than in males who have never smoked. [b2b8161ea1a]If you inhale, cigar smoking appears to be linked to death from cancer of the pancreas and bladder, as well.[/b2b8161ea1a]

How and how much you smoke is important. Cigar smokers may spend up to an hour smoking a single large cigar that can contain as much tobacco as a pack of cigarettes. Smoking more cigars each day or inhaling cigar smoke leads to more exposure and higher risks. Studies have shown your risk of death is higher if you smoke 3 or more cigars than if you smoke 2 or fewer cigars a day. The health risks associated with occasional cigar smoking (less than daily) are not known.[/quote2b8161ea1a]

[quote2b8161ea1a][b2b8161ea1a]Does Inhaling Affect the Risk of Cancer?[/size2b8161ea1a][/b2b8161ea1a]
While almost all cigarette smokers inhale, most cigar smokers do not. This may be because cigar smoke is generally more irritating. An emerging trend among cigar companies is to change the fermenting process of their products to make them easier to inhale. This same curing and fermenting process further enhances the flavor but also increases the levels of harmful ingredients.

For those who do not inhale, tobacco smoke does not reach the lungs in the same quantity as it does in cigarette smokers. Therefore, the risk of death from lung cancer is not as high as it is for cigarette smokers, but is still several times higher than the risk for nonsmokers.

Cigar smokers with a history of cigarette smoking are more likely to inhale. According to a recent American Cancer Society study, those who inhale have an increased risk of death from lung cancer, 11 times greater than that of nonsmokers.

The study also found that for those who inhale, the risks are increased for other types of cancer. Compared to nonsmokers, cigar smokers who inhale deeply are 6 times more likely to die from oral cancer and 39 times more likely to die from cancer of the larynx. They also face more than twice the risk of death from pancreatic cancer and more than 3 times the risk of death from bladder cancer compared to nonsmokers.[/quote2b8161ea1a]
http//www.cancer.org/docroot/PED/content/PED_10_2X_Cigar_Smoking.asp

And this is not to say I'm perfect, I've smoked a fair number of cigars while playing golf, and one of my favorite memories ever is smoking a Cuban Cohiba on the roof of my hotel in Panama City, Panama 8 years ago. The fact is though, that cigars are dangerous and carcinogenic, even if you don't inhale, and if you try to ignore that, you're only hurting yourself, and the ones who love you.[/quote2b8161ea1a]

I like Acids. Kuba Kubas and Liquids are good. They are sweet and leave a sweet taste on your lips. They even have to be kept in a different case than other cigars at shops because of their strong smell. I like them though, and I recommend you trying one.

On the health note.. I smoke a cigar probably once a week. I'm not worried about health problems (maybe I should be?) because it's not like I'm smoking them everyday.
