Tips for being #10 Caller! ARGGG

OK, this one radio station has this promotion going on... every hour they are giving away free tickets to this festival for Saturday! I want to go so bad. They give them away on every hour! But i've been trying since 6am and it's either always busy...or i get through because the contest for the hour ended and he's like yep just missed it. It's pissing me off. Anyone have any tips on how get in? do they have like 10 lines open and allow 10 spots and then just pick up the one line that is number 10? Or if it starts ringing and no one answers do i hang up and call right back? I call very quickly when it's busy..the second i get a busy sign i redial immediately but it's always busy!! Any tips?

I've always wondered how they do this too.
I always assumed that they would pick up the phone for caller 1 and say "Oh no, you didn't win.." and on and on till the 10th caller.

I think that too...but I NEVER GET IN for them to say you're "such and such" caller..try again. Or if they have a switch board that shows ten callers in the queue and they just pick up line 10...anyone know how this works or any advice?

At the radio station that i call it works like this.
The phone is kept off the hook until they are ready to take callers so you can't call early. It's usually like right after they say to call that they allow callers.
Then they answer the phone ten times.
"Hello you are caller number whatever" (they say it pretty fast and then hang up)
So you shouldn't call as quickly as you think you should. And it's pretty much luck if you are going to get through or get a busy signal.
I'm usually caller number 8 or something.

next one is in 15 minutes....so once they say call now and be caller 10...and the alls i get is a busy signal constantly....wait a few seconds and call again?...cuz i wait like half a second and try again right away.

i would be very very surprised if a station had 10 lines, i'd think 3 or 4 tops.
it can be very frustrating to call and call and get a busy signal every time - the last time i tried to win something was in 2004. i had to be caller #9 to get entered into a drawing for a u2 ipod. it took a day and a half, but i made it - but didn't win the drawing.
just because it's busy doesn't necessarily mean they are taking call after call in rapid fire, they could just as easily be taking their time going from line to line saying 'you're #1', 'you're #2' and so on.
just keep dialing and don't stop until you hear them talking to the winner on the radio, i'm guessing they will air the recorded conversation between the DJ and the caller. if it's ringing, do not hang up.

Also, use multiple lines if you can. You can easily accomplish this using a cell phone and a home phone, but if you can get multiple cell phones from friends + home phone you increase your chances a lot.

yeah, Gigante, i just had my blackberry and cell going...my cell phone got it ringing on first try and blackberry constant busy signal...my cell phone that kept ringing and ringing ...no one picked up and while my phone was ringing for a good minute...i heard the winner on the air. (

I just have my one thumb on the disconnect and the other hand on the dial...I push disconnect and double push dial and it auto dials the last number

Most cellphones I've had have an auto-redial feature. When you get a busy signal, you hit the redial key and put your phone away. It continues to retry until it gets through, then it rings your phone and you answer as if a call were incoming. Not sure if that's a carrier option or if it varies by phone model. Not even sure if my current PDA smartphone does it, but I know the last few Motorola flip phones I had did.

I won concert tickets before by being the 9th caller. I called three times, the first 2 times were busy, the third time, it rang and then the DJ picked up.
With so many people calling, its just a matter of luck. I say try no more than 5 times since they should probably have a winner by then.

I believe you're talking about continuous redial, which varies by service provider.

There's a fee associated with each use. Usually, if you stay on a busy line long enough, it will give you an option to do this. Otherwise, see your own provider's website.
On topic, my mom has won many radio contests which involve calling in. She works at the phone company, so that gives her a small advantage in redial time wink

Yeah most of the phones i've had that option was available. I always shut it off though. I figured it could just call back when I wanted to.
I was confused the one time though. I hooked up the handsfree headset and that automatically changed the options and put that on and I answered my phone and was like oh I was just trying to call you. And they were like you did call me. And I was like it was busy. Took me a while to figure out what was going on.

I have won Ron White tickets, 4 Tickets to Busch Gardens, Free CD's - 2 different times , $100, 2 Tickets to VA Tech football game. All these required a certain # caller which I was each time!!! This has been over a period of about 5 years. Seems I get lucky when I try. What I do is start calling as soon as I hear them say start calling and disconnect redial over and over. I try not to go too fast because sometimes i get impatient and don't hold down the disconnect button long enough before hitting redial and then I have just wasted time! Good Luck

I used to win on the radio alll the time. heres how it basically work and what you can do to maximize it.
How it works. Their phones aren't numbered 1-10, its just the order they pick up the line. your number one goal is to get on that switch board. You'll know your on if it just keeps ringing. Best time to do this is at the end of the song playing, call. if thats not the right time, no big deal, hang up and try again next song...just make sure you get on.
ways to maximize. USE A LANDLINE PHONE! cell phones and wireless phones have too much of a delay. for some reason a hard wired phone has the quickest reset rate and the quickest connection. So find a land line phone. make sure the redial button works well. learn the timing of the hangup. my phone I have to hold it down for 3 seconds before I can hit redial again. then just keep trying. good luck

My old cordless landline phone had a button where you'd press redial,and it would redial automatically.. you didn't have to hang up.

Ok...So I tried forever to be caller 10 for those bar tickets, never was....but then days later they were giving out john meyer and fall out boy concert tickets....So I tried for days..never could get through so i was about to give up, and I did. But then I was driving home and the said be caller 10 now...blah blah blah. I was like what the hell one more try...AND I WAS CALLER 10 BABY....I won stupid john meyer tickets not fall out boy tickets which I wanted....So I called the head people of the station in charge of the tickets...and they switched them to fall out boy for me!!

Just recently they did a contest here for up to $960 (they played a song each hour at the top of the hour for 10 hours, and each song you kept track of was worth $96) - The contest went on for like 3 weeks, and I tried to win every day. You had to be caller 9, and I only got it to ring once and I was caller number 7.
Tomorrow they are doing a contest where they give out Warped Tour tickets every 9 minutes and 60 seconds, that one I think I have a much better chance of winning at.

Alls you do is call and a counter starts counting up money and you say stop to get the amount of money you stop, but at any time a buzzer could go offer and you win nothing if you don't say stopp.
You have to get caller 10 to do this, I tried and tried never got through. Well my wife got through last night and was caller ten.
Let me remind you that the 500 winner got up to 1600 dollars so usually it gets high.
The buzzer went off at 375 bucks and she won nothing!! It was the lowest bank they offered, such bullshit!!
And today my wife called another station and you had to be caller 19, she was caller 7 and then called back a second time after being #7 and she was 19!! She won some crazy expensive voucher at a place called "Tony and Guy"
ps. I picked up my fall out boy tickets yesterday ;)

Getting through though 3 times in this short period is cool -- ya'll are lucky.
I only one one time on a radio contest and I was driving -- called with my cell and had to pull over because I was in shock that I actually won something. I never win anything!!
When we first moved to Colorado, my husband won a weekend up to Aspen -- free hotel for 2 nights and free lift tickets and rentals. That was cool.
