I got a check from "MEGA 2000 Imperial Random draws"
The check is fot $2,999.50 and is a real check. But....
The letter it comes with wants me to cash it and send them all but $200 so I can claim $120,000. I called the bank that the check was issued from and they Knew exactly what I was asking. ITS FAKE....

Bastards..

I assume the idea is that "the victim" would send the $200 before the check cleared, and be S.O.L. when their bank tells them it's fake? People these days...

excecpt they want him to send $2800, not $200, he gets to keep the $200, which doesn't make since, why would they send a check for 2999 and want you to send 2800 of it back to them...

Somebody tried sending me $8000 for my car I was selling on the internet. They kept telling me to ship the car ASAP and stuff. Check never cleared, bank had no idea what I was talking about.

But luckily I'm not retarded. And I still have my car. Well not really I did end up selling it.

I did a google search and there are alot of forums on this same exact scam. But I can see how it works. That check looked really good. Especialy for someone who is broke and needs the money, How many people go out and cash it and keep the 3gs or even send it in without doing any research???

London, England. Anytime there is every anything out of the country it is a scam.

Except maybe canada, but that doesn't count because it's connected to the US.

There are a few "giveaways" in the letter...notice that there are spaces missing where they belong, and present where they don't belong...also why would you capitalize "(Eighteen)" and parenthesize is w/o putting the numerical format ("18") first. "Organised" (as opposed to "organized") is a good sign it wasn't written by an American. Finally..shitty grammar and "C0-Ordinator" (notice the zero).

Nonetheless, one of the better scams I've seen....I wonder how many people they'll need to get just to break even.

What do you mean to break even? You mean like to send out the checks and stuff?

I'd say not to many people. And I bet that a lot of people actually do it.

they probably ripped off someones bank account number and printed up a bunch of checks, send them out to random people, and the people send them the fee and than run with it. you dont get a penny. They just made 2+ grand off of you while the bank comes after you for fraud.

I'm paradoxically offended. I don't want to think that my marvellous country is only 'not a scam' because it is connected to the US (we're BIGGER and PRETTIER than you!) but if I disagree with that then I get lumped into the "scam" category.

Hey! Wait a minute! I'm half English. OK, I'm DEFINITELY pissed now.

Hmpf.

Anyhoo, the "ise" alternative to '"ize" is a correct spelling and is the standard in the UK. I use "ise" often.

Haha well it's good to be considered not a country known for scamming. LOL I guess that is what I'm trying to say. But there are some countries that you hear and immediatly think of scam! Nigeria, any time I ever hear that i think of scam right away. And lately I'm thinking that way about londond. I've tried to buy a motorcycle off the web and london seems to the scamming headquarters for motorcycle scamming. I've had about 4 people try to sell me a bike and want me to send money to this fake escrow site who will pick up the bike in london and ship it to me.

I dunno probabyly like this

As the 21st 1st prize winner, you win $4999.98

That wasn't very hard. lol Only took me about 15 seconds to think up and a little longer to type. roll

Totally. I mean if they would have bumped the amount to $3000.00 even then I totally would have sent them the $200, but for $2,999.50, no thanks. lol

Looks like a felony to me!

Yeah, the bank would be after you and they WOULD get the money from you. It may be a felonly but there is nothing that they can do about it. Some type of law or something that they can't do anything about it.

The scammers or the bank?? I'm confused now

petieroman

15-03-2007 20:58:03

the bank...

The scammers are probably some lonely computer nerd or low life who makes a living scamming people.

Not that computer nerds are bad, cuz I am one....

stueybaby17

15-03-2007 21:04:19

I'm pretty sure that you probably signed something when you signed up for an account about trying to cash a bad check and if the funds can't be recovered that they would be taken from your account.

My bank won't cash a check unless I have enough cash to cover the amount of the check.

petieroman

15-03-2007 21:15:37

So what if you dont have a bank account, than what, Usaly when I cash a check, its at the casino, cuz a bank charges a fee w/o an account. I need to get one soon.

That is a good question. I know somebody that used to cash payroll checks at walmart. He was a assistant manager with me at papa johns and was fired for stealing. Before he ended up leaving he was able to steal his payroll check before the day it was supposed to come out. Well there was a stop put on the check. And I know he cashed it at walmart. Walmart called the store and asked about it. But I don't know what ever happened about it.

I guess they try to collect from somebody and then just take their losses if they can't ?
