Hi, I need some help. My dad's birthday and this month and my sister and I want to get him a poker chip set. He is remodeling his house and making a poker room, and buying a brand new poker table so we figured it would be a good present. But...I know nothing about poker chips. So, I was wondering if someone had any ideas. He normally plays with 4 guys so how many chips would be enough, and does any one know of any good places to get good chips?

A 500 poker chip would be nice. Maybe some 11.5g chips. Check out this website http//www.5stardeal.com/expand.asp?pro=8855&subcat=1388
And if u want to buy him a table ;), our very own hairyfarry does em, and very good ones. contact him

If he is making a room specifically for poker he probably won't want one of those sets, i'd say a little bit higher of a grade chip... I do suggest 5stardeal.com though, they have been great with all of my poker purchases...

I'd suggest one of those, I don't like the other one because you can buy a set like that at walmart...

not being anything other than a casual poker player...does someone who plays a lot really need an oak carrying case, or just good chips? (I can barely shuffle cards, seriously)

Nah just get a good chip set with an aluminium case. Two years ago they were like $80 - $100 for a case of 500, but you can get them cheaper now. I've ordered about 5 times from 5StarDeal, always a great, smooth transaction. Plus they accept PayPal.

Full Contact Poker is (was) Daniel Negranue's online poker website.

I like those.

Then again, I don't know much about poker shrug

I think we are going to get him this case, because I don't think he needs a portable carrier. So I think this is what we decided on but now I have to buy chips seperately, so there is another decision. I really like the ones you put up tjwor so I will probably get one of those chips.

Haha,
THanks X for the good word. These are ones we usually do now. The one X did was the very first one I ever did. I've done about 30 tables now. Here's a thread I made about some of the nicer ones we do.

We also do custom felts where you can put his name on it, or his favorite team, whatever you can think of we can do.
We also do custom chips for about .60-.75 a chip
