That is really only a year actually IN jail, but none-the-less it is a year wasting in a jail cell and he will have a much harder life when he gets out.

In all honesty, jail time isn't what hurts people. It's the fact that you have something like this on your permanent record is what hurts your chances for a half-decent job.
