I have been thinking about picking up this GeForce 7900gs and playing oblivion on the PC but I want some advice from those of you who have it for both PC and 360, are the add-ons and downloads which you can get for pc (dark brotherhood expansion etc...) really that great? Also, are there any other PC games out there that are worth playing? I don't know how I feel about blowing $200 for the card if I only use it for Oblivion (unless the add-ons and stuff are completely amazing)

I am a big fan of FPS's, so my favorite 2 games are FEAR and Half Life 2. I also enjoyed the Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic games. Those aren't graphical powerhouses by any means, but they are very fun games.

My favorite game was starcraft.

If you can wait a while, then you could spend money on the new 8800 series video cards (http//www.engadget.com/2007/02/02/nvidias-geforce-8600-series-brings-dx10-without-breaking-the-ba/) for nearly the same price in a few weeks/months.

Isn't the 7900 faster than that? Is there anything that one does that 7900 doesn't?

Oblivion for the 360 is a great game, but the framerate and lack of community make it inferior to the PC version.

Pros and Cons of 360

+ No expensive hardware
+ No installation, etc
+ Downloadable content easy to get and such
- Horrid framerate during overworld walks
- Texture and draw distance problems
- No mods <--- biggest con

Basically, reverse all that for the PC version. Just know that PC Oblivion's mods are plentiful and totally awesome. I don't have it for PC, but was always a bit sour about not having the Mods such as using telekinesis on people and all that fun stuff.

Overall, if you're asking if you should get the PC version over the 360 version, base the decision on what matters most Money (Get 360 version) or Content [mods] (Get PC version)? If you already own the 360 game, then there isn't really a reason to get the PC version and spend all that cash unless you're really into Mods and such.

Well I already have the PC version, and I need to get the expansion packs, but that isn't a problem. I want to be able to play the game seamlessly and preferably with all setting maxed, I don't want any annoying slow-downs etc.. Do you think a 2.8GhZ Pentium D (Dual core) with 1 gig of ram can handle that?

Wow, thanks for the advice. I sold it for 360, but I am re-buying it for sure, I am just trying to decide for which system. roll

Oh my bad...

The [i376e6abbac]recommended[/i376e6abbac] settings for Oblivion are gonna run probably at a 3.0 ghz processor (you're good there), minimum 1 gig RAM (good there), and as far as video card goes, the official word says "ATI X800 series, Nvidia GeForce 6800 series or higher." So basically, if you're card isn't on par or better than those suckers, that's all you're gonna need to play the game the way it was meant to be played.

Sweet, so have you ever seen any of the PC mods in action?

I'd prefer the PC version any day if you have the hardware to support it. It plays great on my 7800GT SLI rig at 1920x1024 with everything maxed. Can't touch that with a 360. ;)

Not to mention I'd much rather play an RPG or shooter with mouse & keyboard than a gamepad.

my recommendation is for u to see what your gaming trends will be over the next few years. ask yourself
1. what will be my primary mode of gaming?
2. is there anything that I can get on system x that I cannot on system y?

if u are mostly going to be playing xbox then do not waste money on a card that u will rarely use. if u will be mostly gaming on the pc then u have your answer.

Good point, I have a 360 and pretty much use it for all gaming, I think the card would be for Oblivion alone.... It [i3575017c4b]could [/i3575017c4b] be worth it if I played it enough, I am just dying to try the mods lol I guess I will play it on the 360 w/ the new expansions and such and if I cant get enough I will think more about the card. There are 2 new expansions out for 360 right? Does anyone know their cost?

Youtube's got a ton. Just search for "oblivion mod."

Also, the big expansions for the 360 and PC are Knights of the Nine (Already out, $10, adds new guild, lots of gameplay) and coming soon is The Shivering Isles (Adds a ton of gameplay, 30+ hours, price probably gonna be around $10).
