I know this sounds stupid, but I wanted to get an Iphone even though I don't have cingular and don't plan on getting it. I was thinking about it and even though you wouldn't be able to use the phone service, you would still have

- Wide screen ipod
- Movies
- WiFi internet and email
- google maps
- handheld osx and widgets
- possiblilty of switching once a deal came from at&t

Why not just get a blackberry or something? They're way less expensive.

The huge price tag is too much of a determent for me... even with the phone service; so I can't see buying an iPhone without the phone service.

If you're paying that much, it might be marginally cost-effective to break your contract with your cell phone company and get one with cingular. Dunno. shrug

can you watch movies and have such an extensive music list on a blackberry?

I'm going to say no. The only way I will get an iphone is if you can get it as a pay as you go, since I hardly use my phone anyways

4 or 8 gigs is not very extensive...

Blackberry has windows mobile i believe which would give you the ability to play music and movies off of a memory card.

Not to mention you'll only be able to use that video/text/IMing for 5 hours.

Will you still be able to connect to the internet without being on Cingular? I had assumed that would only be possible through their service. shrug

wifi.

Why don't you just buy a Palm Pilot if that is all you are going to use it for? You don't even need a blackberry if you don't plan on using the phone service.

No, Iphone is way overpriced. Cool features but it's just not worth it.

I guess where I differ is for the design. I'm in graphic design so all of my stuff has to look cool and work really fluid. Windows and palm pilots annoy me because their so choppy.

and 4 gigs may not sound like alot, but i can barely fill my 1 gig shuffle. I perfer Last.FM

If I got it for free I would. I don't know how much I would use it, but if it was free ... I mean, I wouldn't pay for one, but if I got it free, I'd take it.

Do you mean referral-wise? or you just got it for free...

Also keep in mind, I'd say it'd be about a $100-$200 markup without a contract.

Prices given were $599 and $699.

So you're talking $799-$899 and $899 to $1100 which is redonkulous...But that's just my estimate.

However that should drop in about two to four months after release if you go through indirect dealers...They almost always have the best prices

I literally meant for free. Using referrals would cost me money ... and I'm not that interested in the iPhone. I know I'm not going to get one for free, and I wouldn't pay for one.

It's a cool concept I suppose, but it just isn't worth it to me to pay that much for a phone, regardless of everything else it does.

I don't think you can use the wi-fi/internet capabilities unless you pay cingular... i think that it goes thru their phone networks.

No.

it's a cool toy, but i'll wait until apple releases one for sprint or a good comparable phone comes out with a longer battery life. My roomate has a Treo and it is dead 2/3 of the time. If I am going to buy a phone, it has to first function as phone properly.

Apple has a contract with Cingular (AT&T) and it's very doubtful that they will release this phone on any other networks, which is a sad shame.

I wouldn't even want one even if they offered it up here.

If you're doing an offer site, I would highly suggest you take the cash instead and put it towards something more useful.

I understand, but eventually it should be available across the board. Also before that even happens we should see plenty of rip-offs out there on each network.

I personally like the samsung design.

Ok. You can use the wi-fi capabilities at any access point, but that's kind of pointless. If you subscribed to cingular, you would be able to access the internet as long as you had a signal.

I personally believe that the next gen of ipods will act like the iphone, except have a 100gb or larger hd. Now that i will get.

That is what I'm hoping for. An iPod with the same interface as the phone minus the phone. P

in 5 years or so we will all have an iphone, or something very similar to one.
