I wanted to bump this because this show is fucking AMAZING! If you aren't watching it, you are really missing out. Heroes and then The Black Donnellys is the best 1-2 punch on TV...

The characters aren't as rough as they ought to be (gotta have chicks watch too, I suppose), but it's a cool show. With all the mafia films and series, it's nice to see the Westies etc get some screentime.
Kate Mulgrew totally threw me out of it when she was on though. Janeway and Mrs Columbo was all I could think of.

After I saw the pilot I was psyched...the pilot was freaking awesome.
Every episode since has pretty much sucked. It went from totally bad ass to cheesy, lame teenage angst/drama. Don't get me wrong, I love me some cheesy teenage crap tv...but it totally dilutes this show.
Same thing happened with Studio 60. AMAZING pilot, steady decline downwards after that until it was a pile of poorly written crap.
Anyways the show is a giant disappointment. I must say though, it is better than most of the junk on TV...although that's not saying much with such low-brow, unintelligent competition like wife swap, deal or no deal (game shows for idiots?), nanny 911 and pretty much every other reality show or catch-phrase/canned-laughter hack sitcom.
NBC also flopped with Andy Barker PI. Andy Richter and Buster from Arrested Development as private investigators?! How can they screw that up? Somehow they managed to!

The Black Donnellys win the award for strongest pilot followed by giant piles of crap.
The pilot was amazing. I thought the show was bursting with potential. I also had it in the back of my mind that it was network TV and they would probably take the grit out of it that it clearly needed to survive.
The past few episodes have been insanely lame, pseudo-angst BS. Check The Riches out on FX at the same time. Great show

I agree network TV needs to stay away from these mafia type shows. Every year it seems like one comes along and stinks it up for about 5 weeks, then goes away. The Sopranos has perfected it, and nothing they do will be able to hold a candle to it. They can just make a weaker, more action packed version that explores the same themes over and over.
What is studio 60's fate?

I liked it because it isn't the Sopranos, it was a different type of mafia show. It wasn't about the boss and all the glitz and glamor, it was about 4 kids being essentially forced into the life. RIP (

It's probably because NBC needs to make cutbacks. They're replacing costlier shows with cheap, idiotic reality/game shows that morons watch. I wish people would stop watching bullshit like deal or no deal.
