I have a ING Direct account but recently signed up and got approved for a HSBC account. HSBC has the atm card and so forth, ING doesn't but ING I heard has a better rep....

So who would you choose?

HSBC is offering 6% until April 30th and then after that 5.05%. I think HSBC > ING, but it really isn't a big difference, and is mostly personal opinion.

i signed up for HBSC but it seems a lot harder to use than ING direct. So i just use ING direct and I love it.

no problem with hsbc for investments, checking, and savings. of course savings accounts are a joke in this country now but that is another topic.
if u have hsbc near you then it is a great company. whenever i have had problems they have solved them, which really only was one. remember that where u open your account is your "home" for the rest of the life of your account. what this means i dont know

We have HSBC and love it. It's very simple to use, can't really see how it would be hard to understand.

I use it for the online savings, I don't plan to withdraw unless necessary....

Thanks for all the advice, HSBC is a bit wiser becuase of the atm card....

Why are savings accounts a joke?

he's probably thinking of the risk/return ratio for savings accounts compared to money market accounts.

I have had accounts with ING Direct, Virtual Bank, Emigrant Direct, Citibank EZ Savings and probably several more.

In general, they're all the same. Of course it's convenient to have ATM and checks linked to an account, so I find myself using my EZ Savings account more than the ones that have higher APY's.

I say go to bankrate.com, pick the highest one and go for it. You can't go wrong with any one of them because they're all FDIC insured.

I have an ING account. I've had it for a long time (before hsbc), and never had an issue. I know they aren't the highest APY, but I've never had an issue with it, and the fact that I don't have an ATM or checks is great for me seeing I use it as a SAVINGS. It keeps me 2 or 3 days removed from the cash all the time, and I only buy things I have planned out well in advance that way.

I prefer ING since an ATM card allows you to remove funds which defeats purpose of saving money ).

ahh, I always lump Money Markets into savings rather than investment. He was probably saying MMA>Savings and I was saying MMA=Savings.
