Server Move Complete

well, friends, it's been a long road but we're finally here -- a fully dedicated box just for fipg. with any luck this will reduce the hassle of the forums for many years to come.
for those who are wondering, david spent a lot of time configuring the new box and getting the backups restored, as well as configuring mysql and apache2. i stepped in to help when i could, but he's the one that is deserving of your thanks -- it happens that he's asleep right now because i lucked out in beating the last problem that had us stuck.
so anyway, we're back home in fremont, ca, close to my house. here's what happened
1) server goes down, you see '401 forbidden'
this happened because apis networks, the former webhost, were moving servers from one datacenter to another.
2) server pops back up earlier today
this happened because the new servers were setup and running at the new datacenter
3) server goes down yet again
this happened because they realized just how much bandwidth and cpu time we were using and pulled the plug on our account
4) server comes back up
admin recompiles php for the 1000th time and hits the jackpot

Yes, I am also seeing a bit of missing data. Thankfully, not a lot for me, (one or two emails, a few trade status changes), but it's clear that there was a gap between the "final" backup and restore.

Damn dude this thing is blazing!
David and Tyler both deserve huge amounts of Paypal (or Cheese Nips, whichever they hold closer to their hearts) from everyone. At least give them karma.

I'm guessing the missing data was between David/Tyler's last backup, and when the backups restored.. probably in the window between moving to the new datacenter and Apis pulling the plug on us. Bound to happen when you're getting bounced around like that.

Thanks for the assist, Tyler. Glad to see we finally got a build of PHP that worked. Sorry I had to bail last night but I was loopy and not much help at that point anyway. Let's all thank Tyler for getting us this new box, which seems to be running great at the moment!
As soon as I have a moment to catch my breath, I'm going to start pitching in on those changes discussed in my last announcement, regarding donations and whatnot. Donations and ads will be more crucial to the forums going forward, because dedicated hosting is quite expensive.

Exactly. I grabbed the latest database AFTER we went down the first time, so we had everything at that point. I wasn't even aware we had come back up on the new datacenter until Admin told me, so there was no way to grab that small window of new data before they shut us down again. Apis gave me access to the new datacenter box so I licouldli grab that data now if I wanted to, but then we'd lose this 10 pages of new posts since we came up on this new box, and I don't think you all want to lose data again. ;)
Thanks David and Tyler. D

FYI I'm going to be tweaking the IP's and vhost settings on the web server at some time today (if not in the next few minutes, then perhaps later tonight). This may cause brief periods of downtime. Nothing will be lost like before, the site just might not be reachable for a bit as things get settled down. Do not panic.

I was having problems accessing each individual subforum (I could get to the main page). Logging in fixed it. I logged out again to test and got the same problem.

Yeah, we're aware of it. Guest access is temporarily broken. Hope to have it fixed today sometime.

Hey, I noticed something wrong with the time. I assume it's retrieving the time from the server, however, I have mine set to GMT -5, so right now it should say 416 PM, but instead it's showing 301 PM? LOL...wtf?

Right; you obviously couldn't simply go "back" without losing even more data, but perhaps some sort of "diff" could identify the missing data. Like I said, it wasn't a huge deal for me personally, but I'm seeing others who are having difficulty in reconstructing transactions, etc. Just a thought.

david there would be intersecting keys for posts, PMs, threads, etc. merging them would be a manual process and not worth it at this point.

I have a bunch of PMs in my outbox, and some of them were sent during the period that data was lost I think. Would the other person not have gotten them? They're just sitting there taking up space.

First I've heard of a non-IE7 problem with the Trade Module. What was your fix?
condra
11-02-2007 18:41:38
well the other trader didn't confirm it in the firt place, althou for me it showed confirmed...so after she confirmed it and requested TR i was able to do the same
however, there is still this problem i have X active threads and Y not confirmed, althou the confirmed # is not accurate (3 more than it should be)
does this take into account the hidden trades?
