Okay so here's my situation. The TV that I took from my school's TV production department, because they were throwing it out anyway, died on me when I came back from winter break. I've got an old 20" tube television at home, and when I say old, I mean 95 lol. Its not being used or anything, but I have a 360 here and so I'm looking to go high def. I've considered getting a 19" widescreen monitor for around $200 and then getting a VGA cable so I can play my 360 on the monitor, but then I'd still be without a TV. So what I'm wondering is

should I get the old TV from home and get a new monitor and hook it up to my laptop when not playing GOW or Lost Planet?

or

get an HDTV with more viewing space (maybe 20"/26")?
(and also have a secondary monitor for my laptop even though I have a 15" CRT from my old desktop now)

Okay well lets say that I was going to get the HDTV. Has anyone bought a 20" HDTV or received one from a freebie site? How does it compare to a 20" tube TV ? Should I opt for the 26" hdtv?

I might be worng, but kinda implies you live in the dorms.

Be careful what you buy if you have roommates. I know it isnt a 42" plasma we're talking about here, but stuff gets messed up in the dorms (depending on your lifestyle and roommate situation). Even a 26" HDTV will run you like $400 i think.

I'm just curious what is your living situation?

How much do you play these games? I hope you dont play that much while in school. I understand you need fun time and stress relief. But if you dont play that much, maybe you can live with the crappy tv for a few months. If you have finals mid-May, you'll be studying in May. So technically you only would have to use it for 3 months.

What dave said, but I guess it totally depends on your roommates too. Never has any of my stuff been taken, and I have a 37" lcd, the 3 next gen game systems, laptop, desktop and 5 hard drives. As long as you know the people on your hall you should be fine. Nobody touches anybody's shit here, but it has happened in other floors for sure. Just depends on the environment.

For your actual questions, I would definitely choose a 26" hdtv over a monitor. Will give you so much more viewing space, and it would be easy to earn one from a freebie site.

also, if u can live with a crappier tv, do not forget that for special times you can always bring the 360 to a common area like a floor lounge and hook it up there. those tvs are often bigger and nice and great for tournies )

prolly depends on the school jy3. Our common room TVs suck. About 20" tube TV.

get a 26 inch LCD HDTV like gigante said. Very easy to get, and if I am not mistaken it won't run you more than $600. Do a freebie site, and boom getting that TV is as easy as eating warm apple pie with whipped cream and vanilla ice-cream.

Don't get that 19" unless you are a recluse and only play xbox 360 with yourself. When friends come over you will have to put your nose up to the screen to see your players on a split screen.

Can anyone post some suggestions on some good 26" TVs? I am looking for one with a HDMI port that would be good for a ps3.

I found you this http//www.vizio.com/products/detail.aspx?pid=18

I couldn't find a good 26" in terms of quality and price but I found you this great 32". That is a great size for your needs. $699 is a great deal.
