Any fellow FiPG sushi lovers here? I just love eating sushi along with a nice cup of sake.

Post your favorite kinds, I'd like some good reccomendations for the next time I go.

I love sushi also. My favorite is killed the shrimp boy. That is what it is called around here. It is the sushi with shrimp inside of it (cooked of course) and also the sushi tied on with a piece of seaweed over some white rice.

oh i just came back from a sushi lunch....each time i have tried before, i haven't liked it. after this, i love sushi!

i think it makes a dif if someone is able to "initiate" you to it D my friend was very helpful! lol

Edit do you realize that if the climate continues changing in the way it changes now, sushi shall be a rarity? fish supplies are low and going on worse. too bad....

I love the shit. I will try all the weird things. Eel, Octupus...

I like the shrimp tempuru rolls usually. I usually don't get the roe ones or salmon. Not much of a salmon person.

you ever try to prepare it yourself?

I've had friends that said they have done it, but it didn't come out so pretty.

hehehhehe

OMG salmon is the best, it just melts in your mouth (unless the quality is crap). And sea urchin too, I drool just thinking about it. Tuna is plain, but the fatty kind is good.

If you're not sure if you'd like raw fish, try out some seared tuna, it's everywhere.

Also, there's a huge quality difference between really good sushi/sashimi (direct from fishermen) and the cheap supermarket kinds that are available. Some that think they hate sushi/sashimi because they've only had the cheap stuff can easily be turned with some good quality raw fish.

I love it.. but the only thing is that the kind I had messed up my stomach. I'll eat it again though

It's really good, I'll try anything. I've eaten eel and it was pretty good actually, was a little slimy. My favorite is the crunch maki, not sure if they have that everywhere. I also had some "mexican" themed sushi that had jalapeņos and it was really good.

I think a lot of it is psychological.
After my first sushi experience i use to gag at the thought of it.... the texture, the smell, everything.

I had it again last year and was not really focusing on the food, and it wasnt that bad.

I haven't had it regularly for awhile (pricey), but I do like it.

Well, the "pussified" pre-made boxes that many gourmet and supermarkets have, anyhow. ;) I just can't take the plunge into the real stuff. The idea of a tapeworm, or worse, just puts me off real sushi bars. Even if you order something that isn't raw, a common area is used for preparation. Even Tamago could be risky.

When I do buy it, I usually opt for (grilled) Nigiri-style Eel (It's just a fish, people) which is pretty good. Other than that, it's gonna be veggie, or cooked rolls, like grilled salmon. Sushi's crap compared to real Japanese food like Sukiyaki, Terriyaki and Tempura, though. That's [i310e4312e4]really[/i310e4312e4] great. (Still pricey) ;)

sierra mountain rolls here in south lake tahoe. Shrimp tempura, wrapped, with 5 types of raw fish on top.

Sushi is awesome - I tried it one day back in England...and then very soon afterward found myself craving it. I buy it whenever I can find it - pity it doesn't keep long!

I wonder if anyone's found a way of dehydrating sushi a la Yakisoba noodles way...? Wouldn't that be crazy(if they rehydrated properly....and remained cold...okay...on the other hand that's probably impossible)...

The farthest I've gone would probably be California Rolls. I had some for dinner. Gooooooooooood stuff. )

We should make a post about those Yakisoba Teriyaki flavored nooodles...I'm addicted to those as well. Anyone else tried them?

I admit the cooked fish are ok from time to time

I live in Tuscaloosa, so naturally we have to have a Roll Tide Roll!
It's eel, cream cheese, kani (imitation crab), and avocado.

BUT...

I still prefer raw. I know its not popular, but when I travel, I have to hit a sushi bar, and I HAVE to get a rainbow roll. It's a simple roll, like california or plain crab roll, with tuna, salmon, a white fish (like snapper, grouper or yellowtail), and sometimes avocado, wrapped on top, so it looks like a rainbow. It's hard to make, and hard to get it right, so if the bar impresses me with that roll, every other roll will be well made.

tako (octopus), aka maguro (red tuna) and tai (snapper) are my favourite.
So expensive though when you don't live near an ocean (

Sushi is crazy delicious, I love it all except the ones with the sweet yellow egg yolk, imitation crab, and fish eggs.

I forgot about Futomaki. (large roll) It's pretty good too.

Wasabi is also great when you have a cold. It clears your sinuses out real fast. )

You can't base their entire cuisine on stuff like that. Some yanks eat pork feet and head cheese too. ;)

Then again, we don't have vending machines that deliver beer alongside girl's pre-used panties. There seems to be a cultural gap there for sure. lol

Don't get me wrong, I love Asian food. I eat Japanese, Korean, and Chinese all the time. I had 3 friends living in Japan for a couple years and when I visited I loved all the food but Natto made me want to puke. Some Japanese love it and some hate it. I can't think of an equivalent in American cuisine. Maybe cream of wheat or oatmeal? I love it but I know a lot of people hate it...

The last time I had Sushi was about 8-9 years ago when I was in Canada (BC)... The sushi there was amazing.. I enjoyed the Tuna, Salmon and those rolls with a bunch of tiny fish eggs... I also had a few California Rolls.

Maybe it's because I live in NYC, but I find it shocking that there are still people who cringe at the idea of sushi. It's about as widespread as pizza and hot dogs around here.

Unagi (eel) is quite good, along with Dragon Roll (avocado and tuna). And of course, you can't wrong with a California Roll. )

Yeah, the sushi here is amazing! It's always fresh and pretty cheap. $1.95 CAD can net you 6 pieces of Cali rolls and it's pretty good too.
